Not Exactly what you would call fun!

I haven't played with Elite for a long while, but recently I got my CV1 so this week I have been getting back into it. To be fair, I have been having a good few days recently but tonight has brought flooding back all the reasons why I haven't touched it for so long....

Playing Solo

It started off with an interdiction. Lost 100k. Ok I am a trader and stuff like this happens.

Very Next mission another Intradiction. Lost 250k. Ok really quite annoying now.

Next mission get another intraciction but manage to escape. Start looking around to find my dock destination only to find the planatry landing site isn't listed (unexplored system). This wasn't warned when I accepted the mission.
I then Spend the next 90 mins trying to scan planets and deal with the good awful "system" maps (which are still terrible in VR after two years).
After getting absoluetly nowhere, I eventually loose the will to live and abandon the mission... another 150k lost

Head back to pay my fine (to an empty station) ... docking denied, docking denied, docking denied, docking denied, docking denied.

At this point I had to stop as there was a real danger the whole thing was going out the window.

Yeah, I know that people are going to line up and say that I should have done this and that and it probably was all my fault, but that is 4 hours of my Saturday night gone. Not only is that 4 hours lost to one long disaster that I will never get back but I am also really wound up now.

I honestly wish i had never touched the game again. Of course I accept that a game of course has to have a level of both peril and challange but the experience I have had tonight was nowhere near anything that can be described as fun!

aehm yes your fault you could look up how to avoid interdictions by submitting and jumping out... you could use mines... and so on.. not sure why you have to complain about
the fact you are to lazy to figure out how to be more effective at trading?!

I had my wife distract me after I launched from the Station today... so i helped her and came back to fine the Station had killed me for not leaving ;) 6 Million gone - so what?!      happens - man up dont whine about it!

it is called risk vs reward. and if we couldnt loos Things in the game what fun would it be?!?! I certainly would stop playing if it was risk free cause whats the Point? it doesn tfeel like an achievement any more.. therefore the more dangerous Things become the better!

Wow, 4 hours and only made 350k, maybe you should at least go to one of the million$+ rare trade routes, Deck out and Asp for speed and you won't find much in SOLO play to bother you. Even if you are interdicted you can leave before they can take you out. I was making 1.5 mill per hour till I hit 100mill then I went exploring. Made 18 mill on data last trip. This one I am in a patch with a crap load of black holes so expected even more when I get back. I am waiting for Engineers to go mainstream before I come home to parlay the data for upgrades.
Hey and when your this far out -no interdiction

My exploring Asp is stripped down so it's hard to match my jump range and my fighting Asp can out run pretty much anything it can't kill. This game offers so many ways to accomplish things and so many ways to play (and keeps growing). Spend some time with Utube tutorials on whatever your trying to accomplish. The only way I died in solo play was when I got to close to a neutron star and broke away and flew into a black hole I didn't know was there, while overheated. Lost a few million on my first big exploration.

Ragequit helps noone but salt miners.

Agree... stop fighting interdictions. Submit, then switch all power to engines and shields, boost boost boost and jump.

There is almost no reason to lose to an NPC interdiction.

Sometimes the best way to have fun in ED is to figure out ways to keep yourself alive.

I'm 16,000LY from the bubble, and dreading jumping into a new system with a nasty contact binary.
I'm worried the ship'll get fried, with god knows how many millions of exploration data. I'll have to step up to that challenge when it arrives.

Its the feeling of succeeding that you must seek for fun.

Spent about an hr in a RES the other night earning 920,000 was getting ready to leave and decided to go after just one more Python. Just as the ship blew up the feds turned and me and with 4 of them I was dead in seconds instead of minutes. Needless to say lost the whole kitty and 480,000 to rebuild my ship so kissed 1.4M goodbye. Not sure what happened to make them turn on me as I am positive I never fired on them, do they come after you if you bump one?

Sorry but the whine threads are over there. This is the virtual reality thread, where we mostly ask actual questions about VR. I will offer you some cheese and GIT GUD and stuff, but there are TONS of threads on the main forum about having trouble surviving and how to deal with it. Please go there, if you have issues or questions about your CV1, come back here and we will be glad to help you.

Annoying interdictions are one thing.

Annoying interdictions when I'm carrying no cargo are quite another.

One of the main problems for me atm with regards to this game is how ---- trading, mining, exploring and basically the entire game is when compared to RES SITES. I make so much money/hour at RES sites, with so little effort (seriously I get full bounty credit just from poking someone who's on 5% hull from police ship action? who designed this?) that it just makes the rest of the game pointless.

The other part that frustrates me is how reliant I am on third-party websites just to find basic information like 'where to buy ship X' or 'where to buy a good weapon of type Y'.

Anyway I died a stupid death earlier today and not only lost 300k from having to pay insurance but at least another 500k from lost bounties that went down with my ship, so I feel your pain, it's very frustrating when you feel set back like that.

Setbacks are great nothing motivates me more! But loosing a few 100ks is not a setback ;) try loosing 10 Million when u die :D but even that is fine as said it motivates me! But this is really not the whimpy whiner Forum it is a VR Forum so go somewher else to talk about how you feel about loosing stuff ingame...

Git Gud, (only joking honest). Try get a fast ship like a cobra, forget weapons and equip with mines, when interdicted, just boost away and drop mines, if the mines don't kill your attacker, at least you can easily jump out.

I use this system with my clipper, interdiction worries are no more.

Sadly this game is not about fun buddy :- (
Sorry you had a bad time.
I'm also sorry that most of posts before me are bunch of fanboys who are insulting you. They don't understand casual player and that we only want to have "FUN" :- (

Hmm. So the tactic is to "submit" instead of trying to "beat the interdiction" which never seems to work now. I thought trying to beat it was part of the game, guess I was wrong. Which would explain why fighting it doesn't seem to work properly anymore. Go figure.
