Not played since wings... what's new / changed?

Just picked up my HOTASS again after a year or so of not playing. Wings had just been released (not sure if it was in beta or released)

I have the original E: D (was on beta a couple of years ago) and not opted for any of the pay to play additions.

I seem to have picked up a load of materials whilst looking for black boxes... what do I do with them? Are they specific to horizons and I can dump them or do they have a use?

Being as the Engineers are all based on planets, if you only have the base game, then you can't access the Engineers. Some of the mats you have can be used for synthesis so don't jettison them without checking, but in short to answer your question, almost everything has changed since you were last here, enjoy!

I guess he left for a reason and if I were to guess the things that made him leave have not been addressed by FD

gameplay wise, except for planetary landings, the game is still exactly the same as it was at the release of wings... only graphics got worse in certain areas and new bugs were introduced

oh and we had your standard MMO "gear check/gear inflation" update

A big plus is that, despite numerous bugs the game is much more stable and has better overall performance (but graphics went through a couple of downgrades)

Sounds like you left, just before I joined!

The game has changed quite a bit, but most of it is Horizons based.

However, there are some universal goodies, you've got;

• HoloMe. Your own personal you editor.
• Multicrew. For when you want to be less effective in combat than usual. (it can be a good laugh)
• Ship Launched Fighters. Yes. Hire an NPC, or use multicrew, and you can launch a glass cannon at your foes! They're also a hoot to fly yourself.
• More voice acting. Stations, and crew all speak!
• Ship naming! You can now name your ship The Enterprise, just like everyone else. But you need to buy the stickers from the store to actually have it written on your ship.
• Better AI. It used to be even better, but people complained. So now it's just a bit better.
• ALIENS! Yes, there are Thargoids floating about. Most of their stuff seems half buried on planets, but there are interesting space based POIs, and if you're incredibly lucky, they'll even pull you out of hyperspace and tickle your belly.

And that's all I could think of in 3 minutes!

Enjoy! I do highly recommend getting Horizons. It's pretty cheap die to loads of sales right now.
