not sure if me or the game

Hi name's Martin, i'm new to this game, i have always been looking forward to a space sim like this, i have played freespace and darkstar one and other space sims so i'm a quick learner when it comes to games like this.

But i'm not sure if this is me or not, even after watching you tube videos on travelling around space i'm still having trouble getting near to a docking station planet or other objects to fly near to to interact with.hope this makes sense.

i'm getting the speed for a safe approach and the distance goes down, but i'm having trouble dropping out of supercruise when it's the right time and the distance even goes back up as if i'm getting further away.

also i'm not meeting people online to or have i missed something?

It sounds like you may not have it locked or targeted? Also you may need to control your speed and disengage once the system prompts you that you're close enough

Approaching stations or signals can be tricky at first, when your on approach it has the distant in LS (light seconds) and a number underneath that goes down the faster your going, what you wanna do is get the bottom number to 7. To do this when your looking at your throttle there's an orange bar on the right and blue bar on the left, you want to throttle to the bottom of the blue bar when your 100-150LS from what you wanna get to, that will give you plenty of time to disengage supercruise in time, hope this helps!

thanks Stealth gamer92, yeah i push Y but i never seem to be able to get near, and sometimes it's almost like it just keeps going so even if i reach too close it goes back again to as if on repeat or retry.

Space is big [400 billion star systems]. Even in open play, you could be playing for hours and only see a few people. Also keep in mind, this game is on Xbox game preview program, the community is rather small right now.

thanks DoctorHotWings that would explain not many people.

i do think there is something wrong with the full game solo and open, as the training before i brought it worked and now i dont seem to be able to get close to a planet. also if i fail to drop quick enough it always sets me to the same distance, surely i can't be getting the same distance every time. so i think that is a bug.

How far away do you drop roghly?

you should see a "safe disengage ready" message near the bottom of your viewscreen, it will be a light blue color ... when you see that, press the supercruise button combo to exist SC and revert to normal space. Make sure you're within the proper distance and speed - on the left side of the forward looking screen you should see the little Alignment window ... once speed and distance are in the blue area you should be able to drop out of supercruise within range of the station.

No not you.. that's the game, someone decided a rubber banding mini-game, with no computer aided control ever, was the perfect solution to keep us busy instead of including something interesting to do.... like it ?

Are you using the cruise control or are you manually adjusting you speed. I personally use the auto cruise as I find it it easier to judge speed, still over shoots me sometimes but I just pull straight up at the SLOW DOWN msg. To use auto control just keep throttle bar in blue area.

My Y button doesn't work either.. no clue why.

I just use the B+ Dpad up combination when my computer tells me that im save to disengage

actually i have tried lots of different distances, but also i find it hard to get a nice speed with the throttles, i'm wondering also if this needs adjusting as it's either too much or too little.

@Jaeger, thanks mate that's what i was trying to say it's a rubber band effect.

i will have to look out for this safe distance message as haven't seen it, it must be small?

hmm, i can get the speed to safe speed but never when i'm close enough i have to supercruise a bit to get close then it's too close by the time i adjust it, feel like this is me some how.

the alignment panel only shows me a square which is blue?
the distance gauge doesn't seem to move?

maybe i should reinstall game?

ok i'm not getting now diengage message or warning, all i know is i'm on this loop or rubber band i just can't get near it, it always seems to reset back to 1year away no matter where i drop. quite annoying now.
is this just an xbox one thing and pc works fine, have i made a mistake by getting xbox one? don't really want to buy it again. i know the game is still in early development on xbox one am i right? are they behind on xbox one and in front on pc?

There is nothing wrong with the game or the Xbox

Don't mean to sound rude but you are the only person having this issue so it isn't the game that's broken

With regards to pressing Y for engage/disengage super cruise it depends on what control set up you have

It's different between default and classic. Can't remember which is which but one of the configs has Y as super cruise

So onto getting to station or whatever

Go to left panel, select the destination from the list and click a to lock destination

Aim towards it and approach at full throttle.

When approx 9 seconds away throttle back until throttle bar is blue

This should automatically control your speed and keep eta at 7 seconds.

When you are within range I think it's under 1000mm you'll get safe disengage pop up in blue

Press Y or whatever your config is to drop out of sc

It's really quite easy once get the approach speed nailed


An even easier way to control speed is set throttle settings to incremental I'd recommend 25% - that way each click of the bumper increases or decreases throttle by 25%

Makes keeping in the blue very simple

You're just being honest mate. Tbh I would rather know if it's not the game. Process of elimination.

I can normal fly and dock and I can hyperspace it's just his cruising.but what I don't understand even if I get most of the way and drop out before warning the planet or docking station ends up back to a year. It's like a nightmare.

hmm not sure, don't really want to buy equipment can use mobile i guess.

but i will say i think something is wrong there is no warning message, i'm even thinking of buying this on pc.

but i might reinstall it on xbox one.it shouldn't be this hard to cruise to a planet or docking station. and it shouldnt reset the distance everytime it's not realistic, yes i know it's a game but rubber banding is really not right.

does it rubber band for others?
