I don't know how it happened, but I decided to update ED while I was browsing all of the forums that I subscribe to.
As soon as I clicked the ED launcher it just said sign on and then type in the verification No. that was sent to my email.
There was no download to be done (in or out of Steam) VR also works perfectly.
I have been playing the beta, but that has never made a difference before.
So in all very happy
