Newcomer / Intro Not sure what role to be yet and have a question

Hi,

So I've been tempted to do some of the missions whereby I would have to shoot traders for the Federation. Up until now I've been just doing trading style jobs.

What are the negatives of completed the combat missions?

Thanks for the help!

Hehe, you are then starting to actually play the game! Considering the implications of your actions is one of the fun aspects of the game.

In the particular case of the mission you mentioned, i.e. shooting traders for the Federation, there are a couple things that can be useful to know:

- Trader or no trader a given ship will have a criminal status in all jurisdictions: Either CLEAN or WANTED.
- Shooting CLEAN ships in a given jurisdiction (except anarchy systems) will put a bounty to your head.
- Conversely shooting WANTED ships in that system should not put bounties on your head, what is more, if you kill them you will be able to cash in their bounty.
- CLEAN or WANTED most NPC ship belong to a small or secondary faction or org of some kind. Shooting them may reduce your reputation with that minor faction. If they are WANTED your reputation should not be affected but there was a bug whereby it was, not sure if that was corrected yet.

Losing reputation with a faction, major or minor, means that you may become unfriendly or even hostile to them whereby you ll see them in red and they may shoot you on sight. Conversely if you are friendly you ll see them green in yr scanner and may eventually come to help if you are under attack etc.

Bottom line for your mission: Consider finding traders that are also WANTED? ;-)
