Newcomer / Intro Not sure what to do.... :( Pointers welcomed

So far, I'm not enjoying the game and I know it's most likely my fault for being stupid.

I just have absolutely no idea what to do, I have gathered it's not a jump in and be an expert kind of game, but I'm completely clueless.
I've read a couple of guides, and they advise to start doing simple trading runs. I've managed to work that out, except that I can't actually get any missions from anywhere

I've managed to dock into stations ok now, but every single station I've been to, the missions are unavailable to me as apparently the faction doesn't trust me enough. I've not found anywhere that will give me a mission yet. So far all I seem to have done is fly around to somewhere else where I can't do anything.

I'd welcome to pointers on where to read up more, I'm not expecting anyone to spoonfeed how to play the game to me, but at the moment I'm feeling a bit disappointed with the game, and that's probably of my own making for being stupid

Some areas are worse that others, that's for sure. I started in a bad area for a different reason, but there's nothing stopping you from going somewhere better. Just stick to places with "proper" names instead of stuff like "Alrai Sector AY-476" etc and there should be plenty of missions around. If you wait every 5 minutes in a station some BB missions are added too.

You can also try scanning for profit, though you can only sell the data if you go further away these days.

A forum hint btw - not everyone is using the black forum background (I'm using the original white one) so grey text is hard to read.

If missions are unavailable, consider a few milk runs. Work out what's cheap to buy (compare against galactic average) and then find a nearby system to sell then in.

Food canisters are scrap can help get you off the ground cheaply....

Being stupid and not having acces to some informations are 2 different things

...all of us were the same at the begining and in every game we play

Thanks guys, not sure why my first post came up that colour, might be because I copied and pasted some of it from another thread in the wrong section where I put almost the same post I guess. I wasn't aware there were different colours, so I'm sorry for that.

Thanks for the tips, I'll do some more reading. At least I've got the hang of basic flight now, was at least hoping to be able to dive into some missions or something. Hopefully I don't have to do too much trading, as it doesn't sound overly exciting to me (no offence intended to anyone who enjoys it

)

You would be surprised at the thrill of successfully landing an expensive cargo!

Quick question - whereabouts are you in the galaxy? Not being able to get any missions sounds odd, and I'm wondering if you've ended up over in Imperial space or something where you might not have enough reputation.

Sorry for the slow response, I'm currently at Frigaha and haven't ventured too far away as I'm not really sure where to go. My ship doesn't seem to have a great deal of range, so I thought it might be an idea to stay not too far away for the time being until I have some clue what I'm doing

Is where I am not a good place for missions then? I've still only found 2 that I'm eligible to do whole time I've been playing. It's starting to get a bit frustrating

Please, what do you mean by a "proper name"? How is "Alrai Sector AY-476" not a proper name?
