o7 Commanders, I am very new to Elite Dangerous and started playing because I needed a break from EVE and New Eden but what started as a brief break has turned into an extended sabbatical and purchase of a Thrustmaster Joystick so looks like im in it to win it. I am however missing the local chatter that is such a huge part of EVE, am I just not in the right systems or is ED a rather quiet game?
Not used to quiet local, where do all the Commanders hangout?

Local chat is usually very very quiet. Even in busy systems. Players in general a very quiet people. If you're not online during peak hours, you can almost feel alone in this game. Lol
I highly recommend joining a busy squadron for that constant chatter you crave.
Admittedly, most of our chatter happens on discord, rather than in game.
I tend to play from the sofa/floor, so it's easier for me to pick up my phone and type, than to try and squint while I type out a message in game. Lol

As for comms, I'm usually crashed on my sofa using a DS4, keyboard out of reach.
And quite often I miss most of the messages cos busy shootin' stuff.
You're right it is a trap, yaaaarrr, but if you want a free anaconda.....

Deciat has been particularly busy during the weekends, at least on PS4. People here want to chat too much, considering not everyone on PS4 has a keyboard, LOL.
Actually I did notice Deciat at Farseer Inc. Had a lively local
Lol rgr that o7, had my Adder esploded there waiting on a dock to open when I first started.
Its a big game. Even if there were 10x the players, there would still be massive regions of space where nobody was.
Plus a lot of players are just doing their own thing, often in PG or solo, or sometimes in Open, and not that chatty.
As others have noted, there are more popular systems.
