Not VR question - but I play with a Rift. Point Defense

I built an Explorer just so I could get some Guardian Blueprints - I'm thinking of having a go at Guardian killing or something.

I made sure it had point defense because people suggested that it would help when I was being attacked - but I cannot get the point defence to work at all. They are there, and powered but they don't do anything.

Also for some reason I cannot target anything - like scanning an unknown star etc.

Am I doing something stupid.

Any suggestions would be welcome (well not ANY suggestions obviously), rude ones particularly not welcome.

Kill guardians? Huh? You mean goids?

The point defense is automatic, as long as it has a clear line of sight and ammo it will shoot down seekers, hatch breakers and torpedos. It will not shoot down ships, fighters or dumbfires.

The point defence only works against the "power" attack of the sentinels, where they launch some missiles at you while you drive your SRV around at a guardian structure. They don't stop the regular attacks. Ship has to be parked somewhat close I think.

No idea why - I finished a run and logged out. After a while I logged back in again and point defense was working perfectly. I didn't change anything. Weird.

I soon realised I could target the missiles with the srv turret and shoot them myself.

If I really want an easy time of it I jump back into the ship and deploy in an slf.
The fixed beam variants of the goony or taipan makes quick and easy work of them.

Also. I assume the PD with all missiles or rockets need line of sight.

Inow what utility so you put them on matters.
So if your PD is tucked in your tail and seeing nothing but dirt run you park it, it probably won't do much ,)
