Newcomer / Intro "Notable Stellar Phenomena"

A new one on me!

I just found a "proto lagrange cloud" and got a 50kCR codex entry. Is this something I need to "hand in" or what... quite exciting!

Hmm... that doesn't tell me much except that's is something to note for other explorers. Is that it?

I'm seeing this, and there's another phenomena in this system to check out still.

EDIT

Oh, wait. I got up close and personal with one of these spiky dudes and can select it... I'm seeing this now:

I hope I don;t have to shoot it as I'm weaponless

EDIT 2

Ah wait, I data scanned it and it's done some entry into the codex. Hmm... interesting! (y):alien:

EDIT 3

A close up. Finding a few things now!

I'm making the assumotion that, as it says I have entries in the codex (a little book icon popped up), I don't need to hand the discovery in to a station do I? Like carto data?

You can hand it in, but its only the cash, AFAIK nothing else is lost if you pop.

There are lots of fascinating things that you might be able to do with them to illicit new behaviors (each type has its own behavior):
  • Approach
  • Use your headlights
  • Shoot Them
  • Sample with Research Limpet control
  • Get damage
  • Get overheated
  • Die!
  • Maybe others

Some people still insist that all you need to be an explorer is a fuel scoop, and that a DBX carries all the kit you will ever need.

Ta!

Got some other thing too - Rubeum? Just when I thought I'd seen all exploration could show me, these pop up. Love it.

Oh, I couldn't blow them up for three reasons as 1) I don't have guns, 2) they are too pretty and 3) I don't have any guns. Now, I know that's technically only two reasons but the first was such a huge one, I thought I'd mention it twice*

* To paraphrase Kryten somewhat :D

Ah - the other thing to watch out for in NSP (I kinda skipped that you were new to them 🤦‍♀️ ) is there are usually 3 different things to scan - 2 large, 1 small. Look for clusters of signals to track down the small ones.

Scan them (all 3 types) with the Composition Scanner for more 50ks :)
