I'd love an editable notes box as a tab or part of a tab when you select an animal you own. It would be so easy to put down who their mate is, children, what you plan to do with them, so that you can keep track of whatever you need!! I'd be happy having it as a client side only (i.e. it wouldn't transfer to the new owner if you traded an animal to them) or multiplayer so that if you were to sell an animal they could see the notes.
I think it'd be great not only from a practical standpoint, but for those who want to make some real story in the game, they could write down animals' personalities, the year they arrived, any big events, it would really open up a lot. People could properly roleplay out selling/buying animals and could buy animals that have story behind them which would make them really interesting to have. Obviously with the speed of the game right now that might not be desirable for all players as there isn't much time to connect to your animals, but if they were to slow the game down it would be another way to immerse yourself!!
