Nothing in between 45 to 90 fps? And Rift debug too = bettter FPS

When I turn OFF ASW it caps to 45fps both in Oculus Debug Tool 1.13 plus the monitor's frame rate CTRL+F.
It will only ever drift between 45 to 90 whilst in System Map. Not in GalMap and not even on VR Low Setting.
My install of Oculus is from pre-SSE4.2 (Runtime1.7) but updated to 1.14 so all I can say is E:DD likes Hyperthreading although many games do not require this. Oculus push for this however but a steady 45fps is totally acceptable. If only it was steady in RES & Stations here.

I have the opposite experience when ASW is off its off and FPS drifts anywhere between 0 and 90

I have AA at SMAA or what it is called and makes a big difference in wandering jaggies lines.

Interesting. If you are referring to orbital lines then it is nice that AA is resolving that for you. I'll have a look at that. If I recall correctly , I found turning off ASW stopped the behavior, for myself, but was I was unwilling to give up ASW so just turned them off. Once doing so I felt the depth perception felt better and space seemed more real. I have never had an issue with lines of the hud or rest of the ship as far as jaggies. The AA technique (in VR) doesn't seem to work as desired in places like stations where the are many vertical lines and I don't see any positive difference with it on, personally.

With so many pixel manipulation tools being used in so many different combinations on so many different pieces of hardware by so many different people all with differing prescriptions and eyes and perceptions of color and light, it is a wonder any 2 of us can agree on anything one thing as far as what looks good goes. Guess that is why YMMV was invented.

I now prefer using SMAA with SS1.0/HMD1.5 and all Ultra. I had tried SS0.85/HMD2, AA=off and played with Debug 1.25/1.5/2 but little change really.
Surely if you use SS0.85/HMD2 then this results to 1.7 (maths) whilst SS1.0/HMD1.75 is slightly better. Debug overrides an average on top of these and is said to be more efficient. I just don't bother with that now.

Perhaps using AA does the capping at 45? I'll check... else it's the knife edge of 75.

Using any aa and smaa in particular is huge decrease to performance almost as bad as ambient occlusion and honestly just makes text less legible.

But really doesnt matter if you have a 1080, your old xeon is bottlenecking.
