Nothing Like Losing An Interdiction You're Winning

Title says it all. God damn! Couldn't get anything done with this meager hour of playing time because I was forever trying to avoid interdictions. This isn't too bad by itself since I'm in an enemy PP system so it's to be expected, but for the love of Christ, it's infuriating to lose an interdiction when you are in the centre yellow zone for what seems like half a minute and the enemy bar keeps on going up. WHY?! It's a flipping Cobra I'm fighting against not a Corvette with a tether that could pull a star out of super cruise!

OK rant over, cheers.

Smaller ships are better at interdicting than larger ones since they are able to navigate super cruise better. It is one of the FEW advantages to having a smaller ship in the game. If you want to win interdictions fly a small or medium ship.

A few points:

Agile ships are better both at escaping as well as interdicting (in general, the more agile the ship is, the better chances it will have for success on either role). Being interdicted by a Cobra is worse than being interdicted by a Corvette.

Being close to the center does not always mean you are winning, I believe the color of your crosshair indicates when you are turning the interdiction in your favor.

I have the suspicion that there are some networking or latency issues, even with the NPCs, sometimes the escape vector jumps around after a fairly stable period, causing an interdiction to be lost.

I dunno. I think something changed recently cos I can't ever get away from an interdiction anymore. Doesn't seem to matter what size ship it is.

I agree - interdiction 'feels' different now.

Before 2.0.3 patch, as long as the target was on screen and I was heading in the right direction, I could interdict anything 9.99 time out of 10! - this must have been a bug it was too easy :)

Now I have to have the target central in my sights and even then it is still a struggle to win - much more of a challenge, but I only lose once or twice and hour.

If I'm interdicted I always submit - fight if I'm not out-classed or run and jump if it's a scary Anaconda!

Yeah, I think latency must have a lot to do with it. I've had it go both ways as well as some where I'm almost winning (or loosing) and suddenly it just knocks me into instance as interdicted (or frees me) and it makes no sense. This happens both against commanders and NPCs.

I dont even try anymore, just throttle down and let it happen. Then boost away until I can junp again. So far it has worked 100% better than trying to escape the quicktime event. For me, anyway :)

Definitely harder than it was before.
The other thing is that the longer the duel goes on, the faster the bars move - that probably tips the balance a little more towards NPC interdictors.

When you've got your crosshairs in the center and you're keeping them there, here's some food for thought:

You're keeping those crosshairs in the center and therefore probably not moving much, so your opponent is probably keeping his crosshairs right on top of you.

So if both of you are centered, who should win?

Have you maxed your throttle? Blue zone is good when you are trying to center, but once you're there you need to throttle up to maximize distance (if your opponent has throttled down to blue) or to prevent your opponent from gaining on you (if your opponent has throttled up).

I've had some decent success once I've got the crosshairs centered by throttling up and then sweeping back and forth across center. Doesn't always work, but it works more often than the "Slow and Steady" approach (which used to nearly guarantee escape from NPCs).

Interdictions have now ruined the game entirely for me after over a year im not coming back till it's fixed.

even when the mechanic seems fair (which is rare) the coms GIVE ME STUFF emediately followed by being murdered when i had no cargo or a bounty makes no sense.

so either way it's bad. and for me at least it has become a game breaker.

I agree that interdictions feel different as of late. I was winning pretty much all from both sides, but have now found that it's harder to evade, but easier to interdict. That's in a Python, FDL or FAS, which I tend to swap out, depending on my task.

Although I have to disagree with the Anaconda thing. There's no such thing as a scary Anaconda. ;)

Do we actually have some stats for that? It certainly is the case. Still sometimes I could swear there's something off. For example when you're not just on the yellow but the white spot. You go up just to get owned by what seems like magic a moment later. On the other extreme you can be on the owned side just to see you win anyway.

Tbh the whole mechanic of interdiction is bollocksed up, there are so many questions to how it works, and latency completely buggers it up, especially when another player is nearby. I don't even know how your interdictor class / grade affects the minigame...

Heck I am just the opposite (flying a Cobra III) - I like getting interdicted, gives me a chance to pop a pirate on the way to the station. Last night 3x I put my throttle to 0 and saw the "submitting to interdiction" message and I STILL won and did not get dropped out...crazy crap...crazy....

For you maybe heath, I've had no difficulty with Python or Annie. Not tried Cutter yet, I'm 41k ly's from base.
