Nothing much changed

I joined a Power,(Nakato Kaine, Alliance) went to the stronghold system. First thing I noticed was that her presence in the system was barely noticeable. Second thing, the station/minor faction missions are still a completely different game from Powerplay. I ran a mission for an Alliance agent and received 0 merits. What really struck me though is that she controlled the system, but an independent agent was in political control of the station. Wouldn't these leaders appoint folks that are more aligned with their missions and overall goals?

In the marketing leading up to this update, I could have sworn that I heard the claim "all your actions will now contribute to powerplay." Was that a badly-worded advert? I reinstalled thinking that the BGS systems were being brought into further alignment to make the game and every playstyle within it feel more integrated and meaningful. Looks like I got fooled.

I'm disappointed to say the least.

Day one and folks are moaning, give it time mate

Yep, and it's broken. I joined being 60000ly away. Sold all sort of data to my carrier, tried everything I could do out there -> +0 merits :D So why do you allow remote join then ? >:
Bad design.

I just ran four missions in a Mahon exploited system and got about 75 merits for Kaine.
(But I did check on the galaxy map what type of missions were useful in this system before trying it)

"all your actions will now contribute to powerplay."
That's a little overstated, perhaps. It would probably be more correct to say that (almost) all your actions could contribute, depending on the Powerplay state of the system and which side you're on.

What really struck me though is that she controlled the system, but an independent agent was in political control of the station. Wouldn't these leaders appoint folks that are more aligned with their missions and overall goals?
It runs somewhat the other way around - Powerplay is about convincing the local agents (regardless of their own alignment) that their interests are best served by siding with the Power.

So for example, the donation missions I just did will contribute to convincing this system that it's better off with Kaine rather than Mahon. That the donations themselves went to a mix of independent and Alliance factions isn't important - they all need convincing.

DAMNNNNN I was hoping powerplay was going to give me a reason to do ordinary missions, DAMN IT.......... So Basically at the moment I can trade (screw that) or hunt pirates to earn merits.... I know it kind of depends on your faction, so does that mean I also need to pledge to a new power to get better mission variety even though I find the other faction leaders either W****** or cringe (Like that Japanese hentai looking character with blue hair) that's really annoying.... they should have included all missions to some degree

I tried to pledge 3 different powers. All 3 had exact the same initial tasks. So maybe not :/
I believe there is a set of initial tasks as a tutorial of sorts; after that you're free to do whatever the system states allow you to at your leisure.
