Modes Noticed A Lot Of The Game In Colonia Is About The BGS

I know many, many player groups are into manipulating the BGS. Colonia seems to be a hot spot for that.

I'm only a single player, in solo, so the BGS mystifies me. I just fly for whoever pays me, and if the risk is worth it.

The Egg is a relatively small place, compared to the Bubble, so it's the natural choice for player groups to get a PMF, and work the BGS.

Working the BGS feels like, well, work. Probably one of my many mental illnesses talking. :(

Carcosa is currently in a War state, but everything seems normal to me in solo. Dodging the girders inside the rock is the most difficult thing at the station. :)

So, how does the BGS affect single players in solo?

True, but nothing changed for me, much. I'm running up rep with about every faction by selling exploration data. Not locked out, nobody chasing me. Pirates are about the only issue, but, that's everywhere.

The BGS affects solo players primarily via the state the faction is in. A state affects the type of missions a faction will offer, and can also change what some commodities are worth and/or in demand. In the longer term, both stations and systems can change hands as influence changes, so players who engage with the setting may find factions they're allied with out of power.

As for BGS manipulation being "work," as the old saying goes "Get paid for what you love, and you never have to work a day in your life." It's more mentally involved than normal play, and some people enjoy that kind of thing.

Ok, i fail to see the problem.

There was no problem, only curiosity.

I think I will give up on reading Russian literature, and Colonia as well. Playing the BGS seems like being a dog, with a rope tied to his neck, and a rock tied to the other. And, about to be thrown in the water.

Not very much fun. I can have more fun in an LYR control system, with a 15% discount.

I put all the engineered gear back in the Python, and sold the rest. 620 Jumps to my next destination.

Whats with all the abbreviations. I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Sounds like fun though. Dogs tied to ropes, pirates and dodging girders.

Worry not Ralph, I gave up on trying to understand why people wish to manipulate things for the sake of it, just do what you enjoy doing, it's a game that you paid for and has many different things to do... though some are seemingly tied to different playing styles, I pay no heed to BGS, PP, or Thargoids, I don't have any interest in player group organised anything (with the exception of the close group I'm in) I'm not competitive and I don't want PvP and NOPE... I don't want to tickbox Bucket list destinations...I don't youtube other peoples games and discoveries but do occasionally look at pictures other players post in awe and wonder.
I just enjoy going out into the black and discovering things for myself, spending a bit off time looking around and then heading of to somewhere new, I occasionally drop back for an offload to my chosen Superpower and quick tour of the Bubble.
So there you have it, I'm a totally antisocial and self obsessed.
BUT, I also paid for the game and I want to play it my way or not at all.

So do it Your way and enjoy it.

BGS = Back Ground Simulation
PP = Power Play
DBX = Diamond Back Explorer
DBS = Diamond Back Scout
SDC = Smiling Dog Crew (player guild)
LYR = One of the Power Play factions (Li Yong-Rui)
HP = Harry Potter (the player commander who killed Salome in the recent event)

These are the main ones I see on the forums.
Perhaps we should make a lexicon of Elite abbreviations somewhere?

Ways the BGS can affect you, as a player with no interest in it.

Faction
The faction in power determines whether any police will roll up to help you if youre interdicted.
The faction in power determines whether you can easily bounty hunt in that system or not.
The faction in power determines what commodities are legal or not.
The faction in power determines if the black market is open (I believe).

Faction States
The states determine what, if any, missions are available on the bulletin board
The states determine the price and availability of commodities
The states determine what services are available at the station.

Thats just you as a solo player not caring by the way. Im not including things specifically aimed at powerplay impact and group peen waving

Thank you for the description. I've often wondered what all the stink was about on some of these threads. To me, it looks like a bunch of nothing, but apparently opinions vary on the subject.

I'll go back to my solo game now. :D

I've been pushed out of a couple of systems because I've had little interest in the BGS but someone else did.
A system I used to NPC Bounty Hunt in went from Fed to Indy - so I lost the ability to NPC Bounty Hunt there.
Lost access to a mission board elsewhere due to the system state changing.

So Goose is right, whether we are interested in the BGS or not - it has a massive impact on what we can or cannot do.

Lucky for us, we can fight back in any mode ;)

Other than hanging my hat a Jameson, I'm very flexible on where I go/what I do. Someone wants to taint one system, I'll just go to another. I learned early on not to get too attached to any one system, because things change. For whatever reason. Why is a big don't care. It's like a bunch of fleas arguing about who owns the dog's back they are riding on. ;)

Plenty of other systems in the bubble to have fun in. :)

That became my attitude. Sold up my ship collection so I don't have too much going on and just wander about.
I've started to keep a few bits at Jameson, for when I want a change of pace. But not much.

BGS is highly influential to the way Traders play. States affect prices...but anyone buying, in any system, affects the prices paid for an item.
