Nova Imperium Lives?

Galnet news (January 26) said "Nova Imperium remains in control of the Paresa System" so shouldn't they actually be the controlling faction for Dyson City? And why do they have only 8.4% influence in the system?

The news also reported that the new self-titled imperator and rightful emperor according to NI, Hadrian Augustus Duval, has called for help to support them in the Paresa system. But... They don't even control their own headquarters, apparently, so other than the few missions they offer, how else can we support them?

It's long past time for a revolution in the empire and an end to slavery in the galaxy. I'm not sure if Imperator Duval is the answer, but he's the only option at the moment that seems to have a chance of breaking up Imperial domination.

Galnet and other lore sources can be a bit inconsistent about what "system control" means compared with the in-game representations of it. Though the in-game sources aren't necessarily consistent with each other either, and what controlling a station actually means might well be somewhat different in different regions anyway.

Read it as "retains a strong presence in the Paresa System" if you like.

Do the missions, get them to the point where they can contest for control of the stations, win those conflicts, having consolidated control of Paresa orbital space, expand them to other systems, and take over those in the same way.

I'd wait a while if I were you because for the next few weeks at least there'll probably be Imperial loyalists paying attention to beat you back down ... which is probably why they're only on 8% influence right now.

Given that his faction is highly traditionalist, NI winning would certainly not bring an end to slavery. Of course, a sufficiently long-running conflict between NI and loyalist forces could lead to the break-up or collapse of the Empire entirely, which might.

That seems to be a deliberate hurdle for NI to gain power again. Although you could destroy the other factions ships or force them into unfavourable states as well.

Yep theyll be taken care of soon enough. Only a matter of time

NI are like cockroaches , extremely hard to get rid of entirely. But one method that would work against them (though probably not against cockroaches)

Can't we direct the Thargoids towards this system?
(The other factions should probably expand to other systems if that didn't happen already)

Since the execution of Nova Imperium partisans across Capitol it's only a question of time before N.I is purged by the Empire. The real threat are the thargoids, Nova Imperium will destabilize intra-power cooperation and isolate the Empire.

Nova Imperium?

I think I had one of those on holiday last year....kinda like a choc ice or magnum...soft salted caramel ice cream surrounded by a crisp milk chocolate shell...delicious ;)

I'm interested in destabilizing the Empire from within by helping NI, with the long-term aim to end their hierarchical, authoritarian, monarchical, hereditary form of political and social organization. Thank you for explaining how this all works, particularly grateful to Ian Doncaster for your precise explanation of the variations between the different references to power and control.

As far as the Empire goes...

As the drone Worthil reminds us:
"Empires are synonymous with centralized—if occasionally schismatized—hierarchical power structures in which influence is restricted to an economically privileged class retaining its advantages through—usually—a judicious use of oppression and skilled manipulation of both the society’s information dissemination systems and its lesser—as a rule nominally independent—power systems. In short, it’s all about dominance."

And as the Limiting Factor has noted about such systems:
“As with any power apparatus which thinks everybody's either for it or against it, we're against it. You would be too, if you thought about it. The very way you think places you amongst its enemies. This might not be your fault, because every society imposes some of its values on those raised within it, but the point is that some societies try to maximise that effect, and some try to minimise it. You come from one of the latter and you're being asked to explain yourself to one of the former. Prevarication will be more difficult than you might imagine; neutrality is probably impossible."

Killing one Duval and replacing with another "Duval" isnt going to change much of anything. Just look at the Federations past.

An admission which demonstrates quite well how the only purpose of the Empire is to benefit the elite few at the top, while never improving conditions for anyone else. If nothing much will change beyond who is at the top of the elite few, then the Empire is not a government, nor even a political system, but a petty dispute among family members who should play that game without subjugating billions of people and forcing them to suffer the results of its outcomes.
