Novice assistance

Still kinda new. Actually pretty new. Tried to get my new Zoo to have Otters. So I adopted one, but that was before I realized what the "leaves" were. Mistakes were made. So, I have 44 leaves, lost my adopted otter and my habitat wasn't located properly in my zoo. I also brought a wolf, but I didn't have enough funds to make an enclosure for the Wolf, so I stuck it with my otter. Like I said, mistakes were made. Now, I keep losing funds and I'm not sure why I keep losing them. Went down to like 2 million overdraft, so I had to close the Zoo. I have 44 leaves. Not enough leaves to make a new Zoo, so I'm kinda stuck.

How do I get more leaves? I lost my otter that I adopted cause I couldn't release her back into the wild. Whats the best way of earning leaves to have enough to adopt animals instead of buying them with cash?

Hi there, welcome to the forums! The game definitely has a learning curve. I've played since launch nearly 3 years ago and I'm still learning things monthly. Leaves can be earned with a daily log in to franchise mode. You don't have to actually open a zoo, just go to the franchise screen from the main menu and you get 100 leaves. I'm not sure what time this will translate to you, but I think that happens at 7 PM US Central Standard Time right now. You can also get leaves from "greeting" game generate avatars that "visit" your zoo, up to 5 max a day, 20 leaves each. That's not per zoo that's per player (I wish it were per zoo, then the more time spent in the game the more you get back) I know you said you don't have enough to make a new zoo, but you should only have to wait a day to get that 100 leave login.

You probably already learned this from your experience, but don't stick any different carnivore species together. One species will attack and kill the other most likely. Also as a general rule, don't stick carnivores with a herbivore, though I think there's a few rare interspecies exceptions. You can stick herbivores together in general, but there needs will not always overlap - some require different terrain and different plants so unless they're from similar continents and biomes, their needs will not always overlap. Usually there's a very small negative affect on the animals with that though, so there's some overlapping you can do so long as the overall welfare remains in the green.

My personal advice? Play the first few tutorials until you get the basics down and then play in sandbox mode to get building and animal care down. You can turn off things like predation, death, animal fights etc, welfare in sandbox, if you want. If you've disabled all of that, you could literally stick every animal in the game together in one large enclosure if you wanted to, without any negative effects. Also the money's unlimited and leaves are unlimited in Sandbox mode. The animals will show a cost but it literally means nothing in that mode.

Hopefully this helps somewhat!

Want a solid way to get some fast funds?

Open a zoo and get a couple of terrariums and stick in some fast breeders.
Good choices are:
  • Golden poison frogs
  • Lehmann's poison frogs
  • Red eyed tree frogs
  • Goliath beetles
  • Titan beetles
  • Giant Malaysian leaf insects
  • Diamondback terrapins
Put some donation bins, some food/drink shops, a nearby bathroom, and don't forget a staff room and keeper hut plus the keeper and also caretakers.

Over time, you'll make some money from guests. Also, when your animals begin to breed, you can sell the offspring.

Don't forget to research the species; the higher your research level, the better chance they breed and also the more comfortable you can make them, furthering their breeding even more
