now hostile??

OK.. So I am trying to get used to the power play aspect of things. I found one that seemed to align with my usual game style, trader, and went ahead and pledged to them. Moved to a system in that zone to get the trade bonus that goes with that. I bought a sidewinder to go back to my old system and retrieve my loaded Cobra. I am now hostile in all the systems there?? the stations that I was friendly with are still friendly, but all the systems I am now hostile. ( sigh of relief as I started to freak out thinking I would not be able to get my beloved Cobra)

So what I am curious about, is am I now hostile with all the factions other than the one I pledged to? Or only certain ones. If only certain ones, how do I see who before entering a system and getting the business because I am with another faction. Probably a simple one, but haven't noticed yet how to tell.

Thanks all in advance..

You are hostile in every system that is controlled, exploited or under expansion by every other power than the one you pledged to. In reality it means nothing aside from the possibility of being interdicted by the powers local agents. On the flip side you may interdict/kill any other enemy powers players who are inside your powers controlled, exploited or expanding systems.

I'm interested in seeing the answer. For now, if I pledge then it's because I get drunk and did not know what I was putting myself in for...

The hostile tag warns you that you are in hostile territory for powerplay purposes exclusively, not that you are actively wanted by the local system authorities.
.
It like saying that during the cold war, an american spy in russia was in 'hostile' territory. KGB agents would actively search for him, yes, but normal russian people couldn't care less of his presence. He could go shopping or dinning like everyone else.
.
Also, powers belonging to the same faction are NOT hostile between themselves. For example, if you pledge for an imperial power, let's say Denton, the other 3 imperial powers (Zemina, Arissa, Aisling) are also considered non-hostile for you.
.
Finally, being in a hostile system means that agents associated with that power can freely open fire on you without consequences.

Awesome.. again.. I thank you all for the quick and precise answers. It looks like I should have dug a bit more into this before pledging to a faction. but onward and upward.. Lets see how it plays out...

And of course I aligned with the only Alliance faction. Edmond Mahone.. So guess i will be working on my interdiction evasion skills in my type 6, or my pioloting in my cobra.. lol

Ben has made a good post that explains some things about hostile status - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=159940&highlight=myths
and as i also wrote in that thread - you only really have to watch out in the control systems (both hostile and friendly ones as PP activity in them is boosted)
it is rare that you will get interdicted by npc's in any other systems.

These "agents", are they NPC or players?

both :)
