Not too happy with the new launcher. The actual meat of the launcher - you know, launching the game - is less focus than all the advertisement. I'm not too adverse to advertising to buy things in a launcher, but this is just enough out of line where I have to say something. At least respect your players and make the ads a side note to the actual reason we clicked on the launcher, which is to play the game. Making ads the main focus is a bad omen.

Ask yourself, is this what you want to see when you launch a game you paid for? Then why are you allowing it to creep into your game here?

You know, some people actually buy stuff there... It's kinda frustrating to check every time for some special deal I might like. I find new launcher very useful.

But "a special deal" seems to be the difference OP is pointing out, where he said he doesn't mind the idea of advertising in the launcher. I dislike that so much real estate is given over to the ads because it looks like a Freemium Game if you didn't know better.

Understated is tasteful. Overstated is tacky. They're on dangerous ground.

But it's just the launcher, I don't really care. Just thought I'd mention that I think OP is right.

Seems a really silly thing to get up in arms over. I mean, it's the launcher. How much time are you really planning on spending staring at it?

I see zero wrong with it.

Now, if it starts infecting the actual gameplay, then maybe that would begin to chafe a bit. Just look at it as a positive. Its a means to catch some attention to put more money into ED, its staff, and the future of ED.

We all want to walk on planets in the future don't we? I know you are thinkin "Hell yeah". This is all part of the machine that gets us there, when they don't have the backing of some billion dollar publisher that wants to infect the direction of their product.

Ask yourself how they intend to keep things going once launched and no further payments from you required.
Ask yourself when you click on the new launcher, how long it takes you to click on "Play".

I find the new launcher looks better, understand why it is the way it is, find it useful to quickly see new deals/promotions on something that may interest me, and find it all much preferable to paying a monthly fee.

Looks nice. Shows me the latest news on updates and what is going on in the store. It also provides quick links to the forums and the support site.

To me it just looks like they are getting everything ready for launch. Most people that will end up playing this game will only know the new launcher.

To be honest I like the new launcher - the old one was very basic. I am actually please there is a link to the store and merchandise so I can get there easily.

Just. Click. Play. ;)

Things went downhill ever since Frontier started getting into this whole "selling stuff" thing.

Wait what? ;)

Yeah makes sense not to have offline mode, right? It was JUST for the quality of the "game experience!"! Certainly not for the shareholders bwa hahah.

If we had an offline mode like promised we could turn all this junk off forever and mod the game as we want.

Comparing it with other launchers... Hm

For insance wargaming's wot - I think Eddy's launcher is superior since images are actually informative instead of being just pretty background for the inevitable shop stuff. Form a marketing perspective - Frontier did the better thing, since the players see the SHINY first, instead of trying and not bothering to read.

I don't mind it.

Even though I've already paid for the game, and ordered a t-shirt, I understand that for the game to continue to exist and keep developing new content and providing support it is going to take cold hard cash. It's a fact of life. Strangely enough, FD isn't doing this because they want to have fun. They're a company looking to make money.

Yes it's a bit in your face, but so what. Load the launcher, immediately click on log-in, then play. You'll look at that launcher for mere moments.
