Now just hear me out.

So there was a post on an Elite Dangerous Facebook Group and there, David Hernandez, asked if anyone would be in favor of having player created bases on planets. I know the idea has been floated around plenty, especially with everyone wanting player factions in-game, but there were a few interesting solutions that were brought up and a few I had suggested.

-The, lets say clubhouse, would only be able to be built on a planet. That would eliminate groups from having tons of assets in any system and limit how much range of sight they have.
-These clubhouses would only be able to be built in select locations. Ones that have the right minerals needed for construction, frozen water, etc. This helps spread them out so that one section of space doesn't become too overrun.
-The clubhouse can't be in a populated system. This would help keep any potential abuse segregated and players can easily avoid those locations, especially given the planets rarity.
-The only way to expand a clubhouse would be to run supplies to it. This would use the same mechanics we use currently for synthesis. (i.e. You need 1000 tons of Platinum... OMG please don't make it that, I take that back. lol). This would allow for slow growth but when it is finished there would be a huge sense of communal pride.
-There is no "Governor" of the clubhouse. The different components and upgrades require players to simply deliver material. Defense structures are all AI controlled. With the new "engineers" that are being brought to the game, a simple AI avatar could be made as the "Commander" of the clubhouse.
-To maintain the clubhouse, items and supplies need to be brought in regularly. This will bring in traders that can help keep the place alive. If players fail to bring in resources for upkeep then the various systems start to fail and go out of order until the items are brought in.

This type of component would not only bring the community together but bring them together on multiple levels. You would need fighters to help defend the clubhouse or even attack other clubhouses, traders/smugglers/miners to keep the place alive as well as expand the services, and even bring in explorers who would help scout out locations for these places.

I love this game to no end, but it does feel rather empty. Y'all saw how much support was gathered when the first Player created station was put into effect, and this would galvanize the community again. It would also make credit hoarding worthwhile, because now you have something to pour the credits into.

This isn't a gripe at all, please don't think of it that way, I just thought it would add the potential for expanding an amazing platform you provided.

Thank you,
CMDR Tavi Scipio

Player built, but not exclusive, stations/outposts/bases are coming as expressed by the Devs.

Exact nature to be detailed later, but I suspect we will see them this year.

Just wondering, but do you know the thread where you saw that news? I want to share it with the rest of the people to posted on the Facebook page. :) thanks!

can you link us the post where it states this - as it is the complete opposite to what I read, which was a resounding no to player owned bases!

You were in the main thread disucssion on this, not rehashing it here.

TLDR version: No such thing was suggested, total fear mongering on the part of people that have an axe to grind.

I support no ownership, but for goodness sake, give it a rest.
