Now let the money roll in : Type 7

I have been having a blast in my Asp fully kitted out for multi role purposes, doing rare runs and bounty hunting at each station. I was earning about 1.5mil per 2 - 3 hours or more and it was fun. I also had a fully kitted out Type 6 for hauling, but it wasn't cutting it in comparison to the Asp, well not much more profits.

So eventually had enough for a Type 7 + insurance + a full upgrades + cargo + spare cash.

Now racking in 200,000 each way (26ly, 2 jumps) with my Type 7. I reckon 4 runs an hour if I take my time = 1.6 mil for when I want a relaxing break from the Asp and bounty hunting / exploring.

Jeez, this thing is huge and sooooooo cow like, slow slow slow, but the rudder is amazing :)

Major issue is getting out of the stations. Every time I launch there is always another freighter / clipper or something just going as slow as a granny on the M6 and I am so impatient :)

Other than that, it is what it says it is, a big lumbering cargo shifter.

A few notes for those considering it.

23mil gave me enough to

Upgrade to 212 cargo (with standard shields)
Upgrade the FSD to a B5 (13ly range laden)
Stick on a B2 scoop, will replace to an A when I find one.
2 sets of chaff and 2 sets of point defence
Upgrade the Power Plant.

Insurance is just shy of 800k

Left the standard pulses on, but will upgrade them and bang on some guided missiles just in case I run into trouble. I will be a floating battleship with the turning circle of one.

So the Type 6 is no longer, now a 7 and an Asp for fun :)

You finally start getting to a point where your ship is so large, it's no longer an interdiction target. Drop a shield cell on there and tell Pirates who want your stuff to go bark up another tree. =)

Definitely keep a shield on it. I crashed mine into the toast rack and roof of the docking slot so many times.

The T7 is like driving a double decker bus under a low bridge.

That is the final plan, along with the missiles, will drop out of an interdiction and see what happens :) A few shots and missiles up the bum should sort it :)

I did exactly the same thing. Saved up 23 million credits and get me the Type 7. Now I can carry a lot more than I could with my ASP but I cannot land at half the stations that I could before and I am stuck. Can't seem to make any money at all...

I spec'd out a station to station route before I bought it and kept the kitted out Asp for the fun side of things if the route dries up and I need to find another. Will probably use both ships 50 / 50 to keep the fun going as trading is a grind.

Recommend you get an a cheap sidey and spec out a route with pen and paper. Or cheat and use one of the trading tools.

welcome to the cockpit of the flying brick!

mine is kitted out very similar to yours, i didn't include a fuel scoop though as it didn't seem worth it to me but i did put a docking computer in so i could be lazy and let it land itself.

i installed a couple of gimbled beams on the hardpoints to each side of the cockpit and put heat seekers on the other two, expensive to fire at 500 credits each but well worth it when you are carrying 3 million worth of cargo ;)

it can be a pain to get through the slot but once you get the hang of the piloting position its not too bad.

Glad to see the back of my type 7 like flying a barge.
Scraped it every time i docked, took an an age to turn.
Save up a few more cr and get yourself a Clipper, flys like a Cobra with 180 ton cargo space.

I have to say I am bitterly disappointed in the Type 7. Coming from a kitted out ASP which could jump 25ly and land anywhere to this feels like a downgrade, despite the increase in cargo capacity. Add to that the fact that before I was pulling in on average a profit of 2700-2800 credits per ton (return trips obviously) the maths simply doesn't add up. Not being able to land on a large proportion of stations that made up the most profitable routes makes the type 7 a complete and utter dud in my eyes. Bitterly disappointed with this ship. I will be going back to the ASP.

I just got mine also.

getting 760k in a triangle of 15LY jumps - just about to put in an A5 FSD to make it quicker

That's exactly why I'm keeping my ASP and Type 6 and trying to save up for a Python. The Type 7 seems just not worth it.

Yup it is a pig to fly and has issues with where it can land. But I have kept the Asp for this exact reason, eggs in one basket and all that.

What I am noticing is that I am exhausting my route pretty darn quickly :)

I was thinking about the clipper, but it is cargo space I am after and a pure trader, I have the Asp for other things. The Type 7 will hopefully see me to the Python I want. :)

Same here, Type 7 just doesn't turn my crank. I also can't understand why the Python is SMALLER than the Type 7 yet can carry MORE cargo???

Type 7 = 232 Max no shield Cargo, 420 Ton Hull, Large sized pads only
Python = 292 Max no shield Cargo, 350 Ton Hull, Med sized pads

Bizarre, almost looks like a typo/bug.

Just the way it is I suppose :) You pay more for a better ship in the Python and that includes medium landing pads and more cargo.

Nice upgrade for me from the T6 though the T7

I just traded my Asp in for a type 7 and wow, it is a real cow but aye the rudder is amazing

And one great thing about driving the type 7 is I no longer have to wait ten seconds for that ramp to drop before my ship is free to move. I had no idea it was so annoying until it was no longer part of the undocking procedures for the type 7.
Money will roll in now.

I was making a million an hour in my Asp, the cow will do me proud... happy days (all hail to the space cows) :D

For a start, the type 7 is a third of the price of the Python, a lot of people are disappointed in the type 7 but it is a purpose built ship, the Python is a jack of all trades ship, a lot like its smaller cousin, the cobra, the type 7 is like a larger version of the hauler, it's designed to lug cargo on a budget and very little else.

If you find a lucrative route between two or more stations, the 7 is a relatively cheap way to make big money,
The cost of living in elite dangerous is high, having fun can be expensive, making mistakes can be even more so! When the wallet starts getting light, a couple hours spent in the type 7 can put enough coin back in the wallet to fund all sorts of shenanigans for days.

Will take a lot to prise me loose from my L6 as a trader. Getting 2x cargo load at 17x the price for an L7 doesn't make sense to me. Maybe it will when I've got 17m in the bank and nothing better to spend it on.

Another thing - lots of good trades involve outposts, but they max out at medium landing pads, so no L7.

Not even the fact you will increase your potential profits by a factor of 2 and of course still have the value of the ship minus 10%

About 40 minutes profit in the L7 and I could have bought a base T6 and after 2 hours I had enough profit to buy my old fully kitted out one back if I wanted.
For me, it is halving the time to make enough money to get a Python. Of course that is assuming this interests you.
