Now that colonization is coming to elite let's talk about what is needed next

Hello commanders
Here is a good read.

Now it is time to talk about proper fleet mechanics. I would like to see fleet base of operations were we can form proper fleets and have all the tool needed to run said fleet. Some things I feel would be cool is a fleet beacon just like wing beacons so that fleet mates can get in and out of fleet instancing. Also fleet size missions with rewards that the hole fleet share. I would also like to see fleet base's be able to be attacked and defended.

Wow, talk about jumping the gun. We probably will have colonization, it probably won't be what you're thinking of and now is definitely not the time to talk about fleet mechanics. Fleet missions...indeed...call it what it is, a raid, no thank you as there is quite enough of that on the market.

I can see it now fleet tags, fleet mail, fleet chat, fleet storage, everything we need to build and maintain a proactive and growing fleet

So basically you want to gather some people and call them a fleet?
And what you are proposing are the means to communicate and exchange stuff with your fleet members?
Hmm. That sounds quite obvious if you want such a kind of gameplay.
The interesting question for me would be: How could such a fleet affect me as the pilot of a spaceship (not asociated with a power or even a fleet) in a meaningful and interesting way?

I can see it now: "I'm quitting because you didn't put this in.", "FD we needthis pet feature I thought of!", "Why don't FD listen to us?", "Making Elite great: 10 unrealistic and ill thought out demands.", "Poorly masked attempt at pretending to make a helpful suggestion for elite that really is just trying to turn elite into another version of this other game I 'like' but don't play by using terms like 'MMO' and 'multiplayer' and 'social tools' to justify my demands."

A particularly strong speech, in the video, for a particularly weak setting, in the game.

The core structure of Elite: Dangerous had always encouraged players to work together, they argued, so why not let players build ships and squads whose success or failure would hinge on such teamwork?

Quoted from the interviewer. But I ask to frontier:

Where's your social tools? Teamspeak? Inara?

That is all.

For now :D

Oh lots of ways. They could control sectors of space. They could deny you access to stations, bases and outposts. They could control commodity prices to their advantage. They could do all kinds of wonderful things to you but very with or for you.

“It wasn’t our intention to create these roles but we’ve got these tools. Let’s go down that path,” Sammarco said. “In an update soon, we’re going to give players the ability to specifically choose — at cost, nothing is free in this life — but we’ll give them the ability to choose the experimental effect they want. So they can create that personalized ship that’s theirs and does exactly what they want it to do.”

Riiiiiiight. By de-leveling the costly engineer rep. So you have to grind it back if you want level 5 access.

Sorry I did not post a wall of text for you to disagree with I was attempting to keep it simple.
It seams to me that not long ago here on this forum commanders were saying that we would never be able to colonize star systems and now we can see that may be coming to elite so my hope is that FDev see that their is a lot of interest in proper fleet mechanics and they act on that interest.
And by the way I am the fleet leader of the Earth Defense Fleet in game we are a player minor faction with four systems as of now. You can find our home system of Okinura by using the Galaxy map.

Instancing issues will kill all major battles.

Once I entered a sidey pvp competition with 20+ CMDRs it was a pain to get everyone in the same instance.

Solo/Group anyone?

Simple or complex, brief or lengthy it isn't hard to discern what "interest" you're acting out of and I disagree with it regardless of how it is presented.

"Access denied, EDF permit not acquired. Contact CMDR Vicktore Beskor for permissions."

That's where this is all going. It's my part of the playground, they are my fleet's missions, it's my fleet's station, it'll cost non fleet members a big tax to fuel here, etc, etc, etc and you can't be in it unless I say so.

I love Elite because so far everything presented is up to the individual and no other individual can impinge on any of the content except by direct in-game confrontation which is also optional. Want to participate in powerplay? Your decision. Want to participate in a CG? Your decision. Want to land here or there? Your decision. Want to take a mission from this faction? Your decision. All content is equally available for all players at their will.

Solo/Group anyone?
Nah. If the introduction of fleet mechanics would show a big "this way to solo, please" sign to single players in open it would be really boaring...
I'll wait and see if someone can imagine something interesting... :D
(Me, myself, I can't ATM - that's why I'm so curious what this could add to ED without just turning it into "fleet manager in space" ;) )
