Ships Now that the Krait is so widespread is it uncool, and does that mean the Python is now cool again?

Hipster pilots sipping artisan caffè lattes have a question: the Krait- yea its great and all but its so tragically uncool now because everyone has one....so does that make the Python cool because the Krait is now uncool? When is too cool uncool?

Can the Python now be allowed join the Keelback, Asp Scout and Cobra Mk 4 in the Hipster Hangar?

The Python is still WAY too popular to actually be cool.

The cool factor in Elite: Dangerous still belongs to the Asp Scout and Keelback. Unless something drastic happens, I doubt the Asp Scout's reign as the King of Cool is ever likely to end.

Krait is defo, not cool. Fun though.

I want to be in your gang, really but I'm WAY too scared to say what I'm flying (just in case it's not cool).

The Python still very much has its place, the Krait didn't even take it away. If you prefer bulky survivability to nimble speed, the Python pretty much smokes it. It also has a smidge more cargo capacity than the Krait. They're probably two of the most equal competitors in the game.

So no, it doesn't get to be cool on the "I fly this because it's unpopular" scale. No medium pad, moderately high cargo capacity ship with decent speed and combat capability is ever going to fall into that spot:p

Give it a month: combat pilots will drift back to FDL / big ships; (med) traders will return to the Python, if they even left it; explorers... well they're a bit weird after the space madness kicks in, so yeah no bets there ;)

For me it's kinda replaced my Cobra, which makes me a little sad, and the Clipper is on blocks now.

(It's nice to see the Python and Krait Mk. II being close enough to eachother to be akin to the Viper III and Cobra III, wish ship balance was that tight across the game but... *shrug* ...FDev's gonna FDev.)

For me it's the Cobra III & Viper IV (The Viper III is no comparison to the cobra III IMO) as they are almost identical apart from a few little differences.

I suppose. If you go back to the days of pre-enhanced drives and engineering, they were one of the most evenly matched pairs of fighters around, with Viper III having the edge in cruising speed, de-coupled flight, and hardpoint placement vs the Cobra III's better boost, pitch rate, and internals.

Those days are long gone now, and FDev seems hellbent on making Engineered ships the mandatory baseline for all comparisons anymore, and Enhanced Drives make the Viper into a fighter the Cobra III can't really hold a candle to.

Python? Cool? I don't know. It has that new car smell all over it. Seriously, it's like a space-SUV. Not sure if those can ever be "cool".

I've never been one for cool ships. Focused on the T6 right up until the Keelback came out, then Keelback only until the Krait.

Krait Life 4 Evah (till the next big thing ;) )

I personally don't rate the term COOL! but if you want CLASS then there are only 3 ships in my opinion that fulfill that criteria, Asp Explorer (Exploring and as a Taxi), Python (Planet gathering and as a Station Materials fetcher) and finally the Federal Corvette (Combat, Passengers, Trade and Mining, just change the internals as required) and these three just look so COOOOL! but show it all with CLASS... at the end of the day, it's all about getting results, isn't it?

I'm just glad that there are no fixed gear bikes in space. Can you imagine how many hipsters would escape the gravity wells if there were? Maybe they're all flying Krait Mk I's though, lamenting how awful the Mk II is, with its oversized engines, an actual frameshift drive, and a functioning coffee maker.

Who knows. At least they can't spread through populated space if that's the case. They probably hang out at abandoned moon bases, lamenting the day that the "normals" will inevitably find their latest cool café and move in and completely fail to notice how cool their fake vintage space suits are.

I love your post but no, sorry, the Krait will never be cool. It's Keelback and T-7 all the way in the cool stakes, too often seen as stepping stones, when actually they're a destination ship which just doesn't like to brag.

You have made me want to try an Asp-S, though, so I thank you for that.
