Now we have incentive to scan undiscovered landables !

For those who do not realise, with 1.7/2.2 the DSS just became much more important. Thanks to hard work from our community developers, EDDB (Elite Dangerous Database) is now being synchronized towards from multiple tools whenever you scan an undiscovered body.

What does that mean ?
=> It means that you can help the whole community in their search for materials !

How ?
=> By equipping a DSS and scanning undiscovered landables

Whats the benefit ?
=> Lets say someone is in dire need of Arsenic, eg for FSD grade 5 upgrades, what is the best planet to search for ?

Hopefully he knows he should go to EDDB and query it: https://eddb.io/body?m=6&p=0&t=0&d=0

Ok cool, so now he knows Pleiades Sector IH-V c2-7 6 h has the highest score of 2.9% and goes there, end of story ?

Not really, because how does the data get there ?
=> Before 1.7 / 2.2 this data got either imported via DWE 3302 but foremost manual entries by scientific hardcore people :D
=> Now by just running EDMC (Market Connector) or EDD (Discovery) in the background, all these pages on EDDB get automatically created just by scanning an undiscovered landable with your DSS
=> The "undiscovered" is the only caveat, so far Frontier doesn't send info for already discovered ones, but that might come later !

It means all exploration trips benefit a lot from you having a DSS installed and running EDMC or EDD.
So whoever is planning to join one, keep this in mind, for example, for Distant Stars 3303, I have read to many comments that "DSS is not needed since you don't return anyway". Now you know there are other reasons why you want it.

Give a big shoutout to our community developers :)

EDDiscovery now has a Sync to EDDN option. I assume that's related to this.
Does EDDB pull data from the ED Data Network? No need for an EDDB account?

I installed EDD v5.07 last night and noticed a lot of new stuff that I didn’t completely understand yet, didn’t take the time to look at it too closely, but WOAH, I had no idea the new data linkup was doing THIS much! That’s really awesome.

And so the search for a Polonium world with greater than 1.2% commences!!!!

Just to show how powerfull this feature really is. The 1.2% you talk about (CD-26 1339 A 2 a) got added.. AFTER YESTERDAY EVENING :D Since then it was still 1.1% ! Same for that 2.9% Arsenic I mentioned, it was only 2.8% 2 days ago.

SUP!!!!!! EDD 5.0.7 has been among the best things 2.2 brought in!!!!
Now that all the tools are connected, I cannot log without it running, it's an integral part of the game! And buying a small second screen only for EDD has been very wise!
Now if you think that everything you scan gets stored for the community, even suicide missions start to make sense!!!

BTW, if I have to move in the bubble I can get rid of the DSS, but exploring without one always felt wrong. Even if you make 100 jumps with no shiny, when you get one you leave it behind without knowing the data and untagged?

Also, if I'm not wrong, if you suicide you loose your data and your tag, but you still have access to the map of the system you visited, and if you scanned an object the data is there for you to see ingame too. So if we do the Distant Start for !!!Science!!! it would be foolish to no bring a DSS!!!!

Virtual rep to Baroness, my rep pool is already empty.

Hi Akira,

To my knowledge when you die (or self-destruct) you also lose access to the star systems you visited from the galaxy map (i.e. they become red and you'd need to revisit them).

Do I need an EDDB account for that (I don't have one)?
Which version of EDD do I need?

You do not need an account for EDDB. You do need to provide your API key for EDSM and then link it via either EMDC or EDD (personally I have both running).
The releases of EDD are found on https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/releases and for EDMC on https://github.com/Marginal/EDMarketConnector/releases/tag/rel-221.
I also would like to point out the new update from Captain's Log (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/155545-Explorer-s-Application-Captain-s-Log), which is interesting to try out.

I believe EDDI also links to EDSM and EDDN.
