What's up with the obnoxious NPC behaviours whenever you get near them?
They keep spamming phrases like "Don't stand so close!" and "No need to stand so close!" when you're still over 5m away from them.
And when you stand near them for more than 10 seconds they always say "Now you're just being wierd" and "You're odd". And the guards say "Out of my way!".
They sure need far more variety in what they can say.
Also why do they always wear face covers, often that yellow chinese hat and gasmask while inside buildings?
They react this way simply because of the linear way in which Human NPC's were implemented according to the gameplay the designer intended. It was under the assumption most people would be coming to steal, assassinate or destroy the settlements as bad guys. Because the lead designer for odyssey apparently liked very simple, old games that lacked any sense of nuisance or maturity. They didn't have the foresight to plan for nice players exploring or use any basic checks to try to modify these lines depending on the actions or relationship of the player
In space, the reason everyone is nice to you at stations is because you can't kill them. In odyssey settlements you can, so they assume before hand you will. A symptom of poor execution and planning of NPC state & dialog design. They could of at least looked at faction relationship and adjusted lines or current mission or suit type selected and changed lines according to player mission type so that simple explorers and people on transport missions would not be assumed to be covert spies, murders and assassins lol.
