NPC can be pulled into your hyper jump

In my lumbering space cow Type 9, usual route with few jumps in between. Saw message by NPC pirate as I jumped into system on way - usual 'oh look at all that tasty cargo' message.

Usually able to jump out to next system on route before pirate gets there, but no big deal - if he does, just submit on interdiction, run and jump out again.

But pirate got there late, I was already in hyper jump 4-3-2-1 countdown just as he hit me with interdiction. So the countdown continued while we were in interdiction mode, and I jumped to my next system.

Big surprise though - when I exited hyper
1- the pirate was behind me and started firing

2- either a bug, or intended design of other ship mass interfering with hyper jump - but dropped out face first into star. Not close, not so close didn't have enough room to turn in a type 9 - literally dropped out right into star so that instantly it was crash drop out of SC into normal space.

So basically, hyper to escape pirate -> pirate gets dragged with me to next system -> we both exit hyper right into face of star and automatic crash decelerate from SC to normal mode

Pirate starts firing on me while my ship goes into 224% heat mode, smoke everywhere.....then thank god almighty - the NPC ship dies...yes, dies...because I withstand more heat dmg than him apparently that close to the star

My canopy blows out, my emergency D-rated oxygen turns on, I can't see ANY targeting info because this is first time canopy blew and did not know your HUD can't be seen (obviously in hindsight) with no canopy to project HUD on. So I use fly-by-targeting dot radar only, guess where the escape trajectory is, thrust out of there into SC while ship is still burning away at 200%+ heat

Barely escape with 2% hull left and most my systems fried including the drunk roller coaster thruster damage down to sliver of few percent.

No HUD navigation by Mark I eyeball towards my station destination was a challenge - but I made it, with 3 min of oxygen to spare. No sweat, I can dock this sucker in 3 min no problem, I am saved, my 4.2M rebuy is saved, my 8.8M cargo is saved.....I am thinking that is.

SPLAT. In super slow last few hundred meters docking, routine crap that is routine, my 2% hull - almost all systems fried including no shields left - hits the rails slightly on way into mail slot - and I am now looking at insurance screen.

More than 12M gone just like that.

But - I'm carrying ~10x my insurance rebuy cost and 5x my initial seed cargo cost. So I start laughing and write this.

Only part I have gripe about is that pirate should not have been sucked into my hyper window. Unless there is some design note I am missing.

Yeah, I've seen that happening as well (didn't crash into the star though - not sure now how I managed that), and it's most likely a bug.

However I'd leave it in as a feature :D Didn't you just get your blood pumping? :D

Now imagine if you would have landed after all this. That win feeling. Not that it's still not a big win getting all the way to the station though - noice mate!

I guess the take home from this is: relax only AFTER you hear "docking successful, engines disengaged."

Well, it was one expensive entertainment tab, but yea- I must say I found it pretty good experience.

And didn't want to make excuses - even with my shot up, down to few percent thrusters I should have been able to dock my type 9. But I was so god damn relieved I had made it all the way back navigating with nothing but eyeball spotting, I let down my guard and went splat lol.

My true satisfaction though is knowing that pirate didn't escape the gravity well and fried and I escaped. A 12M CR ...HAH! ...at that pirate.

In my lumbering space cow Type 9.
Oi!
Have some respect for the ship that's your home, that earns you money, that protects you from vacuum, that forgives your poor flying and lousy parking style!
And just remember, each ship has a character of its own, when your ship dies it doesn't come back.
:)

This is a great story.

Not sure whether NPC was sucked into your vortex or not, could he have scanned your wake and followed maybe??
(uh-oh!)

Love, that the star that nearly killed you, killed him. Except that the star DID get you, albeit slowly. It seems those balls of plasma, we take for granted so often, really do influence their whole solar system.

Have to rep this, great story telling too.

Anything is possible, but given the instantaneous / concurrent entry out of hyper for both of us face planting into the star, I'm convinced the NPC was pulled into my hyper window - not target me, scan to find my destination, then hyper himself to same star.

Surprisingly, the type 9 seems to be on tough bucket of metal. I'm surprised I made it out of the gravity well with 224% as my peak heat meter. More blind luck my thrusters aligned with the escape trajectory because by then it was pretty roller coaster.
