Alright CMDR's, please hear me out on this one.
I have had this idea drifting in my head for some time now for this game, so I thought I would share it with the community and maybe, just maybe, FD could see it? Highly doubt it though.
It always feels awkward when you're in a multiple seater ship, but you are the only one there. For some reason it makes me feel alone. *sheds tear* But we can do something about it!
What if you could go to a station (Not outposts) and there is a new option under Starport Services that is called something like ''Hire Mercenaries'' or something along those lines.
You could browse a list of NPC's and hire one, for some CR of course, that could apply a specific buff to your vessel.
So let's say you hire a Merc that is specialized in the Tactical field. Your ship would gain some sort of buff, whether it be your power distributer towards your weapons, weapon DPS, etc.
But then the best part is, you get to see them in your co-pilot seat! And maybe they mumble to themselves, you become great friends and all.
But imagine if you had an Engineering Merc, and your shields dropped to 0% and your computer tells you ''Shields Offline'' like usual. Then your co-pilot would every now and again would yell ''Redistributing 25% power to shields!'' something like that.
This functions very similarly to your officers in Star Trek Online if you have ever played that game.
I think it would liven up the ''Cold dark silent space'' feel that some of us get.
