Engineers NPC constraints

I just had a deadly level anaconda with a 279k bounty in mehet, decided to flee at 50%, faced directly at the asteroid belt and then jumped out through the belt.
I can't do this, why can they. Not only should this conda have been MASS LOCKED as I was, but jumping in this direction should have caused it to jump straight back out due to proximity.

NPC should not be able to break the laws of physics.

If he jumped to another system he can jump out while facing towards the belt, so can players. So long as you are far enough away that you arent masslocked as you make the jump.

Also just had a thought, what ship were you flying? If it was something much smaller than an anaconda you will have been mass locked by him but he will still be free to jump. However if you were right in the asteroid field you will have both been mass locked by it. Hope this helps.

Being mass locked by another ship doesn't prevent you from jumping, it only slows the FSD charge time down.

he was masslocked
or should have been
I was and I was 500m further from the belt than him

he should have been not only fully mass locked by proximity to the belt but actually I am in a fed corvette so he would have taken a longer time to charge his drive.
It did seem to take him a fair while to charge it though during the entire duration he was travelling directly through the asteroid belt.

hmm, strange one maybe a buggy mcbugface or cheating ai. Are there any engineer upgrades that allow you to jump closer to objects than normal?
