Horizons NPC Crew Insurance

2.2 comes with it, the inclusion of NPC crew members. A frankly rather awesome inclusion and one that adds a great deal of immersion, especially if one day we actually get to see them... and have drinks with them in the crew lounge. So if you don't already know, the destruction of your ship also results in the death of your crew member. while this is an understandable decision for gameplay on a conceptual level, it does have a few problems that may not have been considered. (Skip to the bottom of the post for the proposition)

For example, (for the lols[haha])I find it quite peculiar that CMDR's of the Pilots Federation have what is basically the best goddamn insurance policy in the galaxy, where we can die halfway across the galaxy and still be brought back home as if nothing was wrong, only then having to chose between paying 5% of our total cost to replace everything or getting a free ship. It comes across a bit odd that we can't extent that benefit to our crew, are they not with the Pilots Federation. Personally, I would never hire a crewman that didn't have an insurance policy. Besides, it would get very awkward in the galley when you float/walk by your CMDR knowing that they get to live when something happens to the ship whilst you don't even get to jettison and live out the rest of your days counting stars from an escape pod.

More importantly, dying in Elite Dangerous is already a gut wrenching experience (I've watched people storm from the room when it happens), adding a perma-death element to the game is not going to do it any favors. Consider also that these crew members are also gaining their own experience and improving themselves as they rank up, making them a time sink. Having to deal with the fact they died after so much work was put into them is going to be beyond a rage inducing effect. And lets face it, people are going to get attached to their crew members so ripping them away is also not going to pleasant, especially considering...

Getting destroyed in Elite Dangerous can happen for the most pathetic reasons: Love tapping a planet the wrong way, overly sensitive police officers, griefers, suddenly having every pirate decide you look like the tastiest thing in galaxy, getting shredded within seconds of an interdiction, Ect.

So what I propose is INSURANCE. Give us an option to buy insurance for our crew, it can be expensive or monthly or whatever but it would mean we keep our crew. That or give us an option to retrieve our crew in the after death re-buy screen. I would really like to avoid those awkward moments in the galley.
