NPC crew keep firing when I tell them not to-am I doing something wrong?

I'm trying to do some diamond heists in the Keelback, using the SLF to take out the target's powerplant and then switching to the mothership to extract the goods.

When I switch to the SLF I order the crew mate to 'maintain formation'. This is supposed to stop them from firing. However, they ignore my commands and keep firing. This has already led to the loss of millions of credits' worth of diamonds...

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

My mothership has pulse turrets on the C2 hardpoints.

Maintain formation = Follow my lead AFAIK
If you want them to not attack, there is either "Hold your fire" or "wait here" command.

I don't think that's it. The description of the 'maintain fire' order is:
"The ship will hold in formation to you, and will ignore any attacks"

There is no "Hold your fire" command. The crew mate also ignores the "Hold position" command.

Hold position doesn't say anything about ignoring enemies.

Yes, your ship will ignore any attack on them, but they will still defend you. ;)
That's what a wingman in formation is for.

Yeap, try them a lot easier than using the menu. But if these don't work or you feel they don't work as they should just send bug report and try capture on video the crew not following the orders. Tho i am not sure if the crew will hold fire in some situations like you or fighter being hit by npc and etc.
