So we regularly get people asking for ammo rack, and whatnot.
I understand the need for them, I run ammo based weapons on most of my ships, and having to pre-load up on synthesis materials, or dock every 15-20 minutes kinda ruins the flow of the game. Especially when you only need to dock for ammo, and nothing else.
So I had an idea, that mostly maintains the PvP ammo balance, while allowing the PvE group to basically hold more ammo, for sustained combat.
In short, have destroyed NPC's drop relevant "ammo pods", like a multicannon pod, missile pod, etc, even SCB, AFMU, Chaff, etc pods.
You scoop these, and they add a few rounds/charges to your weapons.
It's not a full reload, the idea is they have a deficit, so you'll still need to return to base eventually, but they'll keep you in the fight longer. Essentially, you'll use more ammo then you are likely to collect.
Why is this a good thing?
Firstly, PvErs usually want sustainable ships, to be able to stay in combat for longer periods. However, to do this most effectively, you currently need an ammo less weapon loadout, which can get a little dull.
This suggestion solves that, allowing PvE combat pilots to use a wider variety of weapons, and stay in space longer.
It's also good, because it doesn't unbalance weapons like torpedoes for PvP use.
Thoughts?
Another more simple idea, is just have NPC's also drop elements needed for ammo synthesis. But it kinda makes less sense, but easier to implement.

- Collected ammo pods rearm your weapons instantly on collection, and cannot be stored for later use. (To prevent upsetting PvP balance).
- NPCs will only drop ammo pods for modules they have equipped.
- Not all ships will drop ammo pods, but ships with more ammo based modules will be more likely to drop more ammo pods.
- Collecting ammo pods doesn't require any cargo or material/data space.
- If an ammo pod is incompatible with your ship, nothing happens.
