Hello commanders (COMMANDER = boss on his ship, the one who gives orders to the crew),
Ship launched fighters are coming. NPC crew lounge in station services, hiring NPC fighter pilots for our fighters will soon be reality...
I would like to look a little bit further - what role can NPCs play in our future - Elite Dangerous experience and gameplay.
NPCs are not poeople i know, but let them have a human like attributes - skillsets.. I mean a cook (NPC crew member who takes care of food) will hardly be the best fighter pilot (in emergencies maybe he would be able to man a turret)... But the navigator should be able to pilot the ship - navigate through systems...
There is a gigantic thread about AUTOPILOT (module) ... I say there should be a NPC crew member - pilot for autopilot function, small ships with a single seat should not be able to use autopilot / NPC crew member piloting.
The NPC crew might even be happy, or unhappy with your leadership and if you dont treat them with respect, they might choose to abandon you. So you should better choose your employes wisely - e.g. a cook with rank "harmless cook" will probably not make the other crew members very happy...
We are building reputation with factions - these are basicly a bunch of NPCs, maybe something like nations or companies.
Why not make a similar reputation system with individual NPCs? Now we are allready having special reputation with engineers, so it might be doable...
Populate our ships... Make us players what we are called from the beggining - COMMANDERS. Let us be captain Pickard, captain Nemo placed in space, captain Phillips (Tom Hanks & pirates)
I do not understands, why people post comments like "Are WE PLAYERS still playing this game, when things are automated / handled by NPC crew memmbers" ? I say ABSOLUTELY YES, we are playing the same game with uncountable new options for everyone! We are COMMANDERS.
