NPC Griefers?... lol

You drop in on an Encoded Emissions signal and all that's there is a canister containing what I assume is a rare material and then all of a sudden 5 or 6 ships appear and air you out before you can boost out (in my DBX).

It's happened to me twice this month... anyone else get this?

yes, it happens, sometimes. Probably to spice up boring USS hunts. It's always useful to remember that the "Threat level" of the USS refers to its actual state before you drop into it, but doesn't say anything about what will happen once you are there. ;)

(btw. the correct term in this case is gankers, not griefers. :D )

Happens with salvage missions too. I find it helpful to evade and put up a fight long enough for security to show up and assist., while not straying too far from the salvage. Though, I perform the missions in a hull tanking Chieftain.

Dang it... I always get it mixed up.

Hmmm... maybe time for a beefier material collector ship.

I've dropped into every encoded I've seen since 3.0 and I've never had that happen. Had the occasional solo pirate drop into a degraded and take offense at me scooping mats. I guess they're doing the engineer grind too.

I've had it happen in Encoded and Degraded. They usually pop in with a message to the effect of "this is our salvage" and open fire as soon as you move.

Unfortunately - for them - I don't tend to travel about in defenseless ships, and and have converted quite a few of these NPC's into additional materials.

I use a FAS for USS's these days.

Its quick and agile for cargo scoop collecting and if anyone drops by to say hello they are usually toast pretty quickly.

Went into a threat 2 distress call the other day,a sidewinder and two eagles attacking a type 7,promptly took them out. Next popped in a vulture and two eagles, thought sure why not and took them out. Next two Asps and two vultures pop in!!

Continued like this till i was down to 25% hull and nearly out of ammo and had 3 Asps 2 Vultures and an FDL chasing me,had to bail.

Must have been like the 6th wave to drop in. USS's are a more dangerous place these days:D
