NPC Interdictions - Hard facts and Statistics!

Great to see this kind of information coming through, there is however the real issue of what is the security of the system you are jumping to. If it is going to have a functional affect on how we play then there should be a clear route to finding that information in game. Smoke and mirrors is not a reasonable way of disseminating information

The other thing to factor in is your combat ranking. Apparently this can have an affect on what types of interdictions you get, higher combat rank - higher ranked interdicters.

First up, nice to see Captain Elvis Brandenburg Kremmen being represented on the forum (I'm a big fan and have the books, tapes, T-Shirt and even a sample of a genuine Liverpool Grease-Cloud). Let's get down to business. I'm a competent flier, and well can hold my own seeing as I've been playing ELITE in one form or another since 1984 but these NPCs are something else. Interdictions have become the bane of my existence and frankly are really beginning to depress me. Yesterday, I went from 100,000 CR to 5,000 CR in one miserable encounter (and yes, that is how the cookie crumbles) but I've been targeted by NPCs so many times (to say nothing of being crushed while docking by errant out of control NPCs) that ELITE: Dangerous for me has become incredibly depressing. Still, I keep climbing back on the horse. Anyway, the point is after reading your article and digesting the various factors my situation makes a lot of sense and I'm now going to relocate to a safer system so I can do SOME trading unmolested by the gorram NPCs. Psychotic Shooting - Who Needs It? The way these creeps are going, I might turn pirate myself and then we're see whose dogfood!

I noticed that weapons fitted or not has a big impact on interdiction frequency;
Same ship fitted for trading and no weapons: loads of interdictions, weapons fitted for BH: noticeably less...
No real statistics hehe but npc pirates were intimidated by all the guns i guess :D

Apparently? How far on a guess-o-meter scale from 1 to 10 would you place it (with 10 being a proved fact)?

This would make sense with how things panned out for me. I had gotten to novice when I noticed the increase. That was literally thru the most casual pursuit of combat tho, which raises the question: if you want to trade/explore as your main pursuit, how damaging is participating in combat in the long run?

Has there been any indication by FD if they consider incorporating your idea of showing security level in the HUD?

Or any reason given why they haven't done it yet? ("The security information is only available in the galaxy map" or something like that?)

The only people to ever interdict me are the following:

Random PP faction mass murderer: 100% chance to get interdicted once every supercruise travel within a system
Law enforcement: Once when the moon is red and saggitarius bleed pink unicorns - not often, and my bounty is rather visible.
Other: Smuggling mission interdictor, once every mission.
Pirates: Not often but for some reason they know I have cargo already in supercruise without scanning me which is rather stupid

I have no idea why every PP faction wants me, a Li Yong-Rui travelling salesman dead, I have nothing against the Alliance or Federation and they all want me dead? Why, are our discount cupons so desirable so you want to kill me?

Can someone in Fdev tell me WHY all factions are murderous fanatics?

Sorry to put a dent in this, but I regularly travel empty in a vulture between urgrivirii and zelano (solo play) - about 125 ly. Sometimes I will not get interdicted at all, one one trip I was pretty much chain interdicted on the way to aitken terminal (ie I lost cost of number of attempts). Sometimes I'm getting interdicted at the stars in the short time between scooping and before jumping to next star (because I had to fly around the star a bit to line up).

The point being, my experiences with interdiction over the same routes is very variable. I have no idea how many samples are needed to get a reasonable estimate - four isnt enough by a long way.

Even so - kudos to the OP for trying to analyse this, but as far as I can tell, you can still get chain interdicted in high security federal systems various NPCs, some of whom just want to kill you on sight for no obvious reason even when not in a mission, not carrying anything at all (combat ship with no cargo space) and according to rep - no listed hostile factions.

I guess fdev thought it would be amusing to simulate greifer players as NPCs?
