NPC Interdictions.

So, I'm grinding passenger missions for 3 days now. The same systems, the same far away station, collecting a lot of missions and doing them in one go - standard practice since it works so well.

Yesterday I had like 3-4 interdictions every run. The NPCs were pretty persistent and really wanted to get my high value passengers!. Which was cool!

The last 5 times, all today, nothing. I'm really sad. I don't feel like a hero anymore... delivering them against all the odds was fun... :(

Is it a coincidence or have they stopped for other people to?

It was the same when I was in an Anarchic system the day before. I had an empty cargo hold and was just cruising around looking for High Grade Signals... I was interdicted the whole time by criminally inclined locals! How cool is that, it felt Anarchic. Now that I see there are no interdictions during the missions I'm afraid they've nerfed the danger in Anarchy systems too :(

To be honest, as things stand I prefer not to have any interdictions at all.

The NPCs pose no threat if you want to fight them.
And if you don't want to fight them, they are trival to escape if you simply fart in their general direction and move on (the option I have been taking more frequently for almost 2 years now - just because it's faster than having to turn around and blast them).

In the end, interdictions end up being there just to make your travel take longer by interrupting it every few minutes, without adding any gameplay value in return from those annoying interruptions, a bit like road bumps in real life.

Interdictions are random... Certain things can increase the likelihood of them occurring, such as having missions active, or carrying certain types of cargo, and of course if you are wanted and have a bounty somewhere, there is always the chance that NPC bounty hunters will attack you. But this only increases the chance, it doesn't make it a done deal.

I don't believe FD have nerfed anything to do with interdictions recently, it just so happened that yesterday the numbers rolled and the interdictions spawned, and today the numbers rolled and they didn't spawn.

After I reached elite combat, my observed interdiction rate went down. Even now, I'll get a notice that enemy ships are coming and after shooting one or two down, the rest don't show up.

I can be carrying cargo for multiple missions, same thing. I like interdictions because they add to the mission profits via the bounties, before, I used to hate them, mostly because I had to run and evade.

The only item that seems to really affect the rate is carrying engineer-related items.

Faded Glory has it down pretty much as it goes.

I noticed that I get more interdictions when in unarmed ships, but rarely if in a heavily armed combat ship.

Just today picked up a few haulage missions to a couple of different destinations, in my Cutter. All said hostile ships will be sent against me. Got interdicted by a pirate in an Anaconda, killed it, then no more showed up after that, despite going to several other locations. Its like they got scared :D.

a bn
I thought this thread was something completely different ... See im doing the same thing .... to a far away station ... making a decent profit.... Except i find it a bit ridiculous... today for instance ... 6 interdictions ... ALL back ... to back ... to back ... etc.... id get out of one only to INSTANTLY be pulled into another.... Not only that ... but it seems to happen EVERY time i get close to the station ... like just out of range of dropping ... and then i get a minimum of 2-3 interdictions with a maximum (as of today) of 6

Well. I like them very much. I like losing time like this and it's just the price you pay for packing your ship full with people, who have all kinds of enemies hunting them:) Probably because I'm never submitting, which means I'm not losing much time and I mostly get to only do the interdiction game with one NPC once. If you submit and low wake out he will be on your toes again in a moment. If you win the mini-game he gets dropped into real space and mostly won't catch up again.

But thanks for the responses. It seems it was really a random thing. The interdictions are back again in the same number I had them before. Lovely! :)

Except when you have passengers who dont want to be scanned.... Then you dont want to submit

Wait. What? Have I wrote something different? I wrote I'm never submitting, so yeah. If I have passengers on board that don't like to get scanned they won't anyway :)

I have only a limited number of hours left in Real Life (health), so interdictions feel like getting mugged to, and from, the convenience store.

Back in the old days as a really rookie referee (1978, when I was still an enlisted man), I kept rolling again and again, for a pirate ship encounter for my players. My ego wasn't getting enough attention, and the group was winning, not me.

Sound familiar? :)

I was always cheating with the rolls and just selected what felt most interesting for the situation :)

But yeah. It helps my immersion when someone tries to interdict me when I'm transporting a valuable passenger. It's not always about my comfort. The world has to respond in a realistic way for it to be fun.

But that's just me! :D
