NPC Pilots and engineering.

I like to pilot my fighters in RES sites and leave an NPC to back me up in my A rated Conda, it involves certain risks but I enjoy it.
The Pilots are not always perfect with stuff like weapon choice and pip management but they get by.
If I was to engineer the Conda (never engineered anything before) would the Pilots automatically use the boosted stuff? Would they max out the improved thrusters and stuff like that?

In their bizarre own little way, Yes.
They still do sub-optimal things, but they will be using the extras from engineering.

NPC pilots are horrible in general at flying but have amazing aim. They do magical things with rail guns so put on as many as you can without overheating the ship, knowing that the NPC pilot is dumb and WILL cook the ship if you give a configuration that's hot. They can use SCBs though.

Thanks. I didn't know that about them being sharp with fixed weapons, I normally carry gimbals so I'll look forward to trying some railguns!

Yup, they are way better than most cmdrs when using fixed weapons.

I've got a quad railgun FGS. It's pretty lethal in an Elite NPC's hands, though they can drain the fuel tank if I'm not careful (plasma slug).

The higher ranked pilots are great at PIP management. They use 4 PIPS to SYS when taking damage, keep the WEP capacitor full, etc.
