NPC Pirate logic in RESs is....flawed

lol, the forums would be ripe with complaints over how long these missions now take to do...

Keep everything we have now and offer new BH missions. Nobody has to accept the new ones.

As for the details, (wake scanner etc), they can do whatever they please, but at the moment the BH missions are so basic that I never play them. And I suspect I'm not the only one.

Pirate Lord: "We're going to a RES!"

Minion: "Excellent idea, boss! We can rob those miners of their cargo! All their gold belongs to us!"

Pirate Lord: "What? No! We're going to kill those miners instead!"

Minion: "But....how does that make us rich?"

Pirate Lord: "You'll never become a Pirate Lord with that attitude!"

Minion: "But......we will become the target of local cops! And Bounty Hunters! With their engineered ships!"

Pirate Lord: "Don't worry about them, what could possibly go wrong?"

I've never seen any attempt by NPC Pirates to rob NPC Miners of their cargo in a RES. Shouldn't they be unleashing the hatch-breakers instead of the hull-breakers?

I do agree, but it is a game.

I agree... or they sit there watch you blow up 10 of their criminal mates, scan you, complain about going hungry tonight and turn their backs on you as you open a world of pain on them. The entire notion of going to a res to farm pirates is broken from the get go imo.....

imo pirate missions need to be dropping in on USSes and pulling out of FSD in open space.

of course if doing this and not farming at a RES i would suggest the number of pirates needed for any mission needs to be cut, or at the very least more mission targets need to spawn

RES sites should be slightly risky places where miners go but get better returns on their mining.... yes there would be a few pirates there - enough for a wing person or SLF fighter to have something to do (top tip ship npc ai need to be able to do the bare bones mining, and we need to be able to get an slf ship capable of defence AND of directing the probes, so we can defend the mining ship and at the same time sniff out good rocks whilst our ai does basic ship manouvers and collects the stuff we want and vents what we dont... but i digress.

My point is, RES is a mining site, and yet what miner would go and mine at a haz res? them being the go to place to farm npcs is just terrible design.. not only that it does not even work that well imo, its total RNG if you get a good spawn or if you and up to 3 mates are just sitting their whistling dixie waiting for the odd ship to jump in.

give us sos missions for orbital and surface bases being attacked by pirates for us to jump in and protect
give us missions to fly to a ship in distress and save it before it gets blown up. ( is *almost* in the game now as a random uss it just does not go the final mile and make it worthwhile).

Except they would be become rich much more quickly if they just blew up ships (for the bounties) than the tedium required just to fit a couple of tonnes of indite into their hold.

Seriously - why are there no NPC bounty hunters competing for the bounties that we're trying to collect?

No - not seriously at all. It would be more plausible, but it would also really annoy all the real players and reduce them to passenger missions...

Is that really different from the behaviour of most non-npc "pirates"? :D

NPC Pirate logic in RESs is....flawed

Fixed that for you.
Reason:
Mostly harmless pirate in an Adder: "I'll pick your bones clean, greenhorn!"
Dangerous CMDR in an FdL: "Did I hear a fly?"

Another one:
Pirate in a ship with 5% hull and power plant offline: "It can all stop, if you only give me 500t of biowaste!"
Bounty hunter with 98% shields and 100% hull: "But it'll stop even faster if I just press this red button here!"

I've actually tried piracy inside a res site.

It did not go well...

I guess, in a Hazardous one though, it might work? No cops, right?

Never tried that, might give it a go.

Even when they did use hatch breakers, they would fire them at you when your shields were still up and have no effect.

Well as hatch breakers go through shields now, they wouldn't even need to add that immensely simple check to the AI, so that's a relief.
