NPC Pirates Are Just Plain Silly!

Sorry SJA, but it has to be said. Pirates in anarchy Nav beacons trying to pirate other pirates. I think that's really stupid, pirates should work together for those cargoes! It's very, oh so very annoying when you're trying to pirate an ASP or T6 and a Viper comes around and scans YOU.

It makes me want to rip my hair out. Does anyone else agree?

I don't agree. It makes perfect sense to me that pirates are trying to get rid of pesky competitors. And if they just robbed a trader, why not take their spoils off them?

When I'm pirating my favorite trade route, I also attack other pirates, and if I catch them scooping up dropped cargo, I won't hesitate to kill them and take the cargo in their place.

Well, the AI can only get better, and I think we will have some nice surprises in store for the Power play update. Right now its a little to easy in RES and to scripted. I still miss seeing the FDL and Vulture in small pirate/bounty hunter gangs. I hope the higher ranked NPCs will have the ability to blow you out of the sky literally. Its all about balance :)
Btw another option for pirates in RES/NAV or just SC would be to have an option to team up if they feel they are stronger that way and can reach their goal faster if they cooperate. Lets say 2 wings of 2 Sidewinders and 2 Cobras enter a RES. They are the same faction but in 2 seperate wings. Suddenly they join forces and are 1 wing of 4 ships. Or lets say they coordinate the 2 wings to easier take you out or their target out. This is advanced AI. I hope one day we will see such behavior.

Players actually drop cargo of NPC pirates? Why don't you just blast them into next week??

I built an explominathoning T6 last week. Fully kitted for exploration AND mining. Seemed like a great idea, until I was about 3 hops from Kumaya on my return journey and started to meet NPCs. I'd only done a medium amount of mining, but had an estimated (*sigh*) 250,000Cr worth of Silver and other nice minerals in my hold, not to mention an estimated 1MCr in exploration data. Just a one day trip.... A high-level NPC Viper pirate interdicted me whilst I was scooping. I didn't drop cargo, but tried to run. EJECT!

My exploraminathon build is an Asp. With shields. :) She's lovely.

But you can't always fight if you're a pure trader or miner. And you can't always run successfully either!

Yea agreed it's very annoying. It's all because when the ai, sees limpets or any cargo, they try to take it. FD needs to implement a minimum cargo value before pirates attack

Actually it's happening right now. If you are on sufficiently bad terms with the organization the pirates belong to you can be jumped by two wings of pirates 3 fighter crafts each. Sometimes that happens while you are fighting pirate Anaconda with escort. :)

Totally agree. No offense to SJA, and I have been blunt before... but the AI in the game needs a TON of work. I find it kind of a joke, really.

The ones that really crack me up... I'm cruizing around in my conda... and I get inderdicted by a wanted, harmless, shield-less, sidewinder who wants me to drop all my cargo. Really?

The combat AI itself has improved, but the decision trees the overall AI uses in terms of, "Do I interdict this guy who probably has no cargo and has me outguuned four times over?" are hilarious

I agree. But as improved as they are... they are still a mere fraction as good as a simple casual average player fighter. If I find an elite pilot in a comparable ship... I should not MELT him without taking a scratch. And I do it every time. Players don't want impossible-mode, but they don't want a walk in the park, either.

I find the AI is better in smaller ships than big ones.

Try taking on an Elite Eagle 1v1 in an Eagle sometime. They can be pretty darn tough!

The AI's big ship handling at higher ranks needs some work, though.

Again.. I think I would concur. I once took on an elite viper pilot... in a viper (a while ago). And while I ultimately triumphed, he was tough as nails!! So fast, and SO hard to keep in front of my ship.

Yeah. The high-rank AI seems to do very well in ships that are capable of high evasion. They can get very hard to get a bead on. Even Dangerous Eagles can be really obnoxious to kill sometimes - not so much a threat if you're in a bigger ship since the Eagle suffers from a severe lack of firepower, just really hard to hit.

I have yet to meet an Elite AI Vulture. I don't think I want to!
