NPC ships can now be found landed on planets

I've noticed that you can now find an NPC ship landed on a planet.

It's a very small thing, but it adds greatly the feeling of being in a real living universe. Thumbs up FDev :)

P.S. The planets themselves look fantastic now! Apart from the varied colours, and improve terrain, I may be imagining it, but the close-up surface textures also seem better?

Seen plenty on planets before 3.0. I tend to investigate them then use them as a place to get a proper sense of scale in this game. This NPC Python provided a great side by side opportunity.

This same Python tried to kill my DBX about 2 minutes later.

I know there were ships landed near bases, guarding them.

Are you sure you're not talking about them?

OTOH, this might possibly have been added in 2.4, as I hardly played that.

No, there are ships just sat on planets, apparently doing nothing .... then for no known reason they fly off somewhere

I tracked a landed ship down recently using the SRV scanner.

Try shooting the discovered ship down to a near-death state. See if anything happens. ;)

Yeah I found an Eagle sitting on a planet a couple of days ago and pondered what effect my paltry little turret guns would have on it and whether or not the Eagle would get agitated about the attack.

I ended up trying to ram through its shields for a bit and then headed off towards the sunset having done zero perceived damage.

It adds to the feeling of every airless, uninhabited moon having about ten million spaceships landed on it just waiting around for no discernible reason.

This is from 2.2 or 2.3.

Asp Explorer is my buddy's ship, the iCourier is mine.

Vulture that is on its back enjoying belly tickles from our SRV's is an NPC.
