Horizons NPC v Real Player Interdiction

Why can I usually always evade (ie once inderdiction has started) NPC interdiction and never avoid a real player interdiction?

Would really like to hear peoples opinion on this subjects as its one of the main reasons I avoid open play and it spoils the game for me.

The AI used for NPC is not that smart.

So it does not really matter if you or the NPC is the one doing the interdiction, the AI is still very dumb...

Now replace the NPC AI with another player, and now you do not know their skill level, and as with most things, practice makes perfect, and players interdicting other players, tend to have been doing this alot more, and most of the time, the target have only encountered the NPC AI, and is thus unprepared for the skill bump required to win against a human player...

There is no easy fix to this problem. And training on this is also not very feasible either. even if you have a few friends than could interdict you, how skilled are they? And those who practice this by actively hunt other players, they will most likely not train you to evade them.

So the best defence is to avoid getting interdicted in the first place. This is something you can practice on your own. In super cruise pay close attention to your radar, if having a mission where they are sending out NPC to intercept you, the better, as you now have a specific target to watch out for, since they always announce their presence before you can see them, and their ship is always identified when they show up. They need to be behind you to interdict you, so that is what you want to avoid. So once you have figure out how to read the radar to then you can now threat every hollow squares as a potential threat and watch what they are doing on the radar.

How to avoid having a potential interdictor behind you,

1. Avoid the straight to the target navigation, go around in a curve. This often works very well against griefers, as they simply stay in the in the direct path and wait for new victims. Avoid this path, means the griefer has to travel longer distance to get behind you.

2. You are more vulnerable when you slow down, so even if you outrun anyone chasing you, they will catch up when you have to slow down. So once again, avoid the direct path mentioned in 1. Also avoid flying near planets etc, as these slow you down, going into the "void" and then turning back, does not really cost that much extra time, compared to going the direct route, as the less planets in your surroundings increases your speed.

3. If it i a busy system with many potential griefers, go full speed when approaching the target, overshoot and do an emergency stop. This will throw you into normal space, any pursuers, have to slow down to exit at your wake. this gives you time. turn around, go towards the station and and as soon as possible enter super cruise, and you should now be very close and get the safe to exit indication and drop into the station. You take a little hull damage doing the emergency stop, so avoid this with passenger that do not like hull damage...
