NPCs and settlement data consoles.

I've been trying to practice stealthy settlement missions, and ended up with what I thought was going to be a nice, quiet, upload spyware mission. Except that the console was in the middle of the main hab building, in a bar, surrounded by 5 NPCs at all times. I tried luring them away by turning off the building air, but they just drew weapons and put on helmets before going back to normal. I tried luring them away by heading down a wing of the building, tossing out a frag grenade and shooting my pistol before ducking out a side door and looping around to the main entrance. Again, zero reaction.

Is there any non-murderous way to lure off NPCs that are patrolling near a data console? Or failing that, turning off alarms on the consoles?

AFAIK, you'd have to turn off the settlement alarms and then stay out of direct sight while uploading.

I suppose it might be possible to turn on shields and play hide and seek while the data uploads.

No alarms = stealth achieved. Either kill or run. It's not murder if it's self defense. Not to me anyhow.
