NPCs frame shifting away - getting annoying

I'm not sure if its a product of the patch or just an unlucky run today but every single pirate I attacked for 3 hours today escaped me into FSD.

And to cap it all when I finally DID manage to kill 2 (out of 3) the next USS wiped my count (yes I knew about the bug but rugby was imminent and I was hoping for a bit of karma.

Two questions, has anyone else noticed them getting away more (cobra was the worst) - and has anyone contemplated a way to slow their charge down in a smaller ship.

And I know it should be possible to run, but having no way of stopping them gets frustrating ;)
 
You have ways of stopping them.
Target susbsystems, mainly fsd drive, power drive and/or thrusters/engines.
Interdict/fight in a bigger ship, more mass lock, which slows their fsd charge down.

I don't think you can mass lock the NPCs at the mo?
Had loads of small ships jump away from under the nose of my python last couple of sessions. They are cheating again it seems.
