Horizons NPC's "Wanted" status changing to "Clean" as we watch

I stand by what my friend and myself have witnessed several times now, a scanned NPC showing as "Wanted" changing to "Clean". This has now happened both after ourselves and local police forces have engaged, as well as when I was simply following an NPC I'd scanned. I've not explanation and I don't record my game time, so no evidence either.

I can see how ones perception of events in the heat of combat might be incorrect, as stray shot landing on a friendly and going unnoticed at the time. However, careful observation prior to engaging a "Wanted" target, and an assault charge being given when the first shot lands doesn't leave much room for alternate interpretation of events.

I also observed this evening a scanned and Wanted NPC causing me to be fined for assault after the first hit - this one didn't change to "Clean", and the local police were already engaged, AND we got the bounty reward for the kill.

Note: when my friend and I are playing in a wing, we don't simply go all-out on a target right away. We follow, scan, warrant scan, before "tagging" the NPC with one shot (gimballed Beam) so it goes red - doesn't really give any credence to possibly hitting another NPC etc. plus the "assault" is always mentioning our targeted NPC, no one else.

Something is definitely wrong, but I don't want to be recording every game - and doubtless take a performance hit - from now on...though maybe I should.

Scoob.

I have had this happen as well but a rather long time ago. Ive kinda assumed this may be programed in. When allot of players are taxing the server as they probably were over the holiday weekend it throws a few of these "glitches" out there to pop you with a wanted level. I base this on the fact that it dam well seems like the game is trying to stick you with a bounty on purpose. Maybe the devs are trying to get players to concentrate on other parts of the game too. I'm not a programmer but yes I have seen this happens from time to time. My other hypothesis is that the instance lags and the wanted NPC's get out of sink and you get the old switcharoo that way.

It's my favorite game behaving strangely again, no news here.

I have played little so not happened to me yet, but thanks for the warning I believe it's true.

I to have experienced this bug. I've been playing in a private group and no one else is on to join the instance so people leaving or joining the world isn't a consideration. I am currently hunting pirates in a system and when in Super Cruise I can see they're wanted but when I pull them out of SC, the NPC's that were wanted changes to a clean status and it still says they are my mission target in big read letters where everything else is white. Which in turn means they must still be wanted to be considered a pirate for my mission because when I did kill them I got a fine for murder but my mission updated to count towards my kill count. I've verified this with several screen shots and other wanted NPC's from different system affiliations in the system I am doing my pirate hunt in. I jumped on them cause it's taking forever to find those pirates in question for my mission so I know it isn't limited to just the mission NPC's either.

This bug is 100% verified and if anyone wants proof I got the screen to back up my claims. This is a stupid bug and it needs to be fixed.

It's not necessarily a bug. it depends who runs the space you're in, which can be different between SC and normal space. SC is run by the system controlling faction, but normal space is run by the nearest local faction.

In LTT 15574, you can become wanted when you make a mistake in the RES, but when you drop-out near Descartes gateway, you become clean because it's run by a different faction. The opposite happens in Mussche, where you're clean (lawless because it's anarchy) anywhere in SC, but when you drop-out at the planetary base, you become wanted, so can't land.

i've had this happen as well in both private and solo modes in a high res. The first time i lost my vulture and the second time i lucked out and left with 80% armor. I thought I had imagined things...but i didn't. the npc was wanted and changed to clean while being shot by the police or feds. It was really strange. I don't think this is an intended game mechanic.

People in real life are sure that they've seen UFOs. Some swear that they wee abducted by aliens. they can describe every detail of what happened. Some have seen ghosts. As far as I'm concerned, it didn't happen without video evidence. Why am I so sceptical? Like I said above: Because I've at least 1500 hours in the RES, and I've never seen anything like that. Every strange thing I did see, turned out not to be so strange after the video was played back.

A fair proportion of players use instant replay recording, but nobody has ever shown a recording of an NPC changing from wanted to clean in a RES. I can see some circumstances where it would happen between SC and normal space, though.

d8veh, do us a favor and go troll somewhere else. The FACT is that this is a BUG! Your conspiracy theories are nothing more than an attempt to slander someone who is reporting a problem and asking for help from the devs. This bug has been duplicated and the status change should never happen when the NPC is still listed as a Mission Target. I will put up in the vein hope you will hopefully go away so here is the proof.

Here you can see I'm only hunting pirates.

Here you can see that when pulled out of super cruise he is no longer wanted but he is a mission target but I have a mission for only hunting pirates!

Now if you will be so kind as to go away and stop being a troll, it sure would be nice for those reporting a problem to not be harassed . Your kind of ridicule is why people don't report problems and things don't get fixed.

They're completely different NPCs. Do you think we're stupid. One's a mostly harmless Viper called Dave Rigby and the other is an Expert Cobra called Aurora. Now you go and troll somewhere else.

My earlier comments were in reply to OP's claim that NPCs wanted status can change in a RES. In my post #25, I explained how it's possible for wanted status to change when you pull a ship out of SC. That's not a bug.

Actually no I didn't say you were stupid or insinuate that there was only one mission of a pirate group I was hunting. In fact I had said I was hunting pirates, ie plural - which means more than one so that infers a grade school level of grammar sorry to read you didn't understand that. Also I never said the person listed in the first screenshot was connected to the target in the second. That was your wild assumption and it's a very wrong one at that. What I did infer and confirm is that the first screenshot shows the word "pirates" listed in the mission names from two different pirate hunt missions. Thus in the second shot it shows a different target that is a Mission Target whose affiliation (since you have an obvious hard time with the English language that means who they are allied with and the basis for the mission in this context) was part of my pirate hunt and based on the first picture so that you could or should have concluded that the person had to of been wanted to have that associated with that Mission Target title. Now I may not have a screenshot before pulling the same NPC out of super cruise and then one after we dropped out but in those screenshots I'm now wanted, yes because of the bug. Why don't those two screenshot show the events you want and gravitated to in your assumption? Well, I had been playing with a migraine and I had been at the grind for almost 8 hours before I realized how and why it was happening. Because of this I also didn't have the clarity of mind to get a screenshot of every single NPC ship in super cruise that showed it was wanted and mission target before and after super cruise.

Don't like the explanation? Tough walnuts for you but based on your previous posts I'm sure you'll find some wild fantastical reason to say I'm full of it. This isn't for you it's for the devs and if your so intent to berate people go disprove or prove it your self but provide evidence not wild claims whilst being a jerk and stating people are lieing to you! I personally don't like your derogatory comments and now your wild assumptions are vexing me as well! Your not uncovering a conspiracy theory but you are acting like everyone else is apart of one in this circumstance so you make fun them by making a mockery of other people who make outlandish claims with out evidence, like the alien abductions. Your not going fix this problem for Frontier by trying to paint us with the same broad strokes of ridicule and incredulity. To me I think your trying to be white knight or a SJW and disprove claims for Frontier to look like a good guy or some other vein reason so yes I do think you protest too much to be taken seriously. Now go away!

EDIT: So you know I wasn't talking down to you. I was however noting your shortcomings in this post and because of those I felt I had to hold your hand later on in the post. Best not repeat your mistake again of ASSUMING a given situation where none was inferred or even hinted at. Makes me think you like to make things up just to annoy people. Gosh I hate trolls.

I think you need to read again your post #28, see if you can see any evidence there that an NPC has changed its status and then edit your last two posts appropriately. Calling people trolls and telling them to go away won't change the facts.
