Number of jumps remaining in HUD

Hi all,

When I'm on a longer route (dozens or hundreds of jumps), I'd like to be able to see the number of jumps remaining on the main HUD, instead of having to switch over to the left-hand panel every time. Not picky about where, perhaps it would fit on the top of the screen next to your ship's nickname, I just think it would be a useful navigation tool.

I know it's a bit more elaborate than a simple HUD display, but there is a (roundabout) way to have this today. I use Voice Attack with Ad-Astra from HCS Voice Packs; I don't really do voice commands, but the HCS stuff is well made and it's entertaining having an AI talk to you in your ship. Anyway, Ad-Astra has an "explorer mode" and tells you the remaining jumps, your fuel level and if your jump target is scoopable, and it can throttle down and honk the system for you after the jump is complete. I know it costs money (more so if you have to buy VA as well, and Ad-Astra is a yealy subscription), but it's really worth it.

I don't remember exactly because I switched from EDDI to Ad-Astra long ago, but I think EDDI has the same / similar functionality for free (except VA) but with a less nice text-to-speech voice.

I guess it could go in the right info panel along with the star type/system state etc. when you jump Just an extra line of text for it. I have always used TrackIR and now VR and have always used the “look to open” function so for me it’s just habit to look left while my FSD spools up.

What do you need it for? I think this sort of information is already quite easily accessible - no need to add more mess to main HUD.

What I'd like to see though is the (approximate) amount of fuel which will remain after completing current plotted route (in addition to indication for next jump). So if I knew that the remaining fuel reserves (when route is complete) are too low, I would probably choose another route - either refuel in the middle, or switch earlier to economic routes. Not saying that iy is a critical or necessary addition.

Interesting idea. I think your suggestion would help for short routes (unless you add something in to account for fuel scooping), and my idea's more specific to long routes. I'm currently on my first trip more than 5Kly out of the bubble, so I have long routes fresh on the mind. :)
