Hardware & Technical nvidia 1070 enough for a 38 inches monitor ?

Now that Black Friday is just around the corner I was looking forward to change my (very) old monitor.

But here is the catch.

While I know that a 1070 is a very good card, will it run most demanding games at that resolution at a good frame rate ? ( 60 fps )

I'm talking of 3840x1600 in ultrawide.

Or am good in changing my GPU first ? ( I mean, I just bought it last year, changing it now would be dumb ! )

So, 1070 good for an ultrawide screen in 38 inches, or should I aim for a way lower resolution ?

Thanks in advance !

It should be more than fine.
At worst case you might have to drop one or two settings from ultra to high is all.

I had plenty of headroom on my 980ti on my 3440×1440 ultra wide.
And the 1070 according to benches perform on par if not slightly better than that.

Yep you should be good. I replaced two 980TIs with two 1070s. One handles ultra-wide fine on its own, with about 30% better performance compared to the 980TI. I run just about everything on ultra and am getting slight drops in framerates at stations only.

:D S

Just a FYI OP screen size doesn't matter to the gpu when it comes to performance. The thing that does matter is resolution, a 1080p res on a 60 inch tv/monitor or 24 inch tv/monitor will not make a difference in performance as the gpu is outputting the same thing.... ie 1080p.

Point taken, even if that is an info that I knew already I got what you wanted to tell me.

Not because my monitor can go all the way to 3840x1600 that I have to play my games at that same resolution.

After pondering a bit more an take into account multiple benchmarks, I believe that the wisest move is to go for a monitor at 34 inches at 3440×1440.

A 1070 might be able to handle Elite at 3840x1600, but Elite is a super well optimized game that could run on a potato.

Games like Witcher 3 and the future Cyberpunk, not so much.
A 1070 might handle it, but at the expense of frame-rates.

34 inches is still a very nice screen, and it was top of the art when the 1070 was released.

Everyone here gets some rep. :)

All I can say my GTX 1070 is enough for VR, doing 1080 x 1200px x 2 (stereoscopic) @90hz (well, most of the time). Still got reserves, in particular when overclocking.

That said, all the Geforce 10 cards are outdated, the new prince is GTX 20xx. In 2D, the 1070 reaches 320+ fps on Ultra when hyperjumping @1080p; less in stations & near Thargoid structures, but still plenty. Won't buy another card for quite some time.

Contrary to some conspiratory theories, just because a new generation has been launched doesn't make your card any less good than it was.
There just happen to be something better for more money.
