Nvidia drivers 576.02 (better roll back!)

Can l ask the forum moderators to perhaps pin this post for a few days? Save alot of grief for some prized gpu owners out there in the fdev towers universe.

a similar card destroying fault happened with old nvidia 800 series............
a driver stopped the fans running on high demand it happened when the card was two years after release so most would be past warranty
had a few burnt out ones in the repair shop that year
nvidia released a "fix" driver two weeks later
(can teach a new dog old tricks it seems;))

Is there a way to find out what my previous nvidia driver version was? I recently got my PC back from being repaired and (somewhat unsurprisingly) its drivers have been updated. I guess I’d quite like to roll the nvidia driver back to what I had before, but not sure what version that would have been.

It's not only the temp sensor (although that is undoubtedly the worst), it's stability issues as well.

Other game devs have recommended version 566.36 for RTX 40 cards. That's what I have been using the last few weeks without any problems.

Edit: the developers of inZOI also recommend 566.36 (source: Gamers Nexus video at 0:45). Use DDU to uninstall the current driver, otherwise some weird stuff might be happening.

I update them occasionally, and never without checking that there are no known problems.
Yeah, upgrading Nvidia drivers "soon" after release has become a bad idea. The quality control for their recent drivers has been shockingly awful.
This was already fixed
Wellll, kinda - if you consider a hotfix a fix ;) And if you set aside the fact that the black screen stuff with the 572.x drivers was declared as "fixed" multiple times (including at least one hotfix, IIRC) before it was actually fixed.

Thanks for the warning. I had just upgraded to 572.83 and my VR performance has suddenly become stuttering garbage on my 3090 even when I ramp the settings down to minimum. Was about to DL the 576.02 but staying the heck away from that now. Guess I need to go back to my 566.36 and wait for team green to get their stuff together.

Basically the temp sensor on your gpu is kaput after coming out of 'sleep' mode or 'hibernate' which if running a fan curve or water cooled can result in cooking your gpu cos the sensor isn't increasing in temperature as your gaming.
So as suggested best to roll back to previous iteration.
Just a heads up!

Workaround
Reboot before using pc
Thanks for the heads up!

if ya know the aprox date installed this may help

I have an RTX 30 series but haven't encountered any issues yet and I hope to continue doing so. It seems that this incident has affected users of the 40 series and above, or am I misunderstanding?

In any case, I think I'll downgrade just in case.

Thanks for the heads up @Dragsham!

Yeah, I think it's mainly the 40 series, but I have not heard of any disadvantages so far for all the other RTX generations.

Ok, question. Should I hold off installing my new 5090 and wait for people to say the drivers are ok? My old 3090 is in another PC so I'm not stuck for gaming. Reading about the .15 hotfix, hmmm - not sure.

The problem with rolling back to the 565 branch is if one plays any DLSS titles that take advantage of the new transformer model, which runs a fair bit faster on the newer branches, even with 3000 and 4000 series parts.

Anyway, the previously mentioned (by @GroG79 in post #6) hotfix driver should address the bug mentioned in the OP.

Running 576.15. Played some EDO, X4 and MSFS. So far so good except, in EDO, occasional flicker in the right eye of the headset, if I moved my head. Other than this, all seems fine. Of course, I can't close my case with that bloomin 50A VHPWR connector. I am for the first time ever, pondering a thermal imaging camera and an electrical fire extinguisher.
