Hardware & Technical Nvidia "Game Ready" Driver 344.48 WHQL

Has anyone tried Nvidia's latest geforce drivers? They were released on the 22nd October and, I quote:

Nvidia said:
Best gaming experience for Lords of the Fallen, Civilization: Beyond Earth, and Elite: Dangerous

If so, what difference did they make to your visual experience/smoothness/frame rate/crash/freeze frequency* in E: D?

I didn't notice any difference, some people have said it's better but I suspect they may be using older cards.

The most useful aspect at this time is that you can adjust the Video settings to suit a bloated, unstable game that seeks every possible opportunity to lag and crash, yet leave them globally at something reasonable.

As someone pointed out in the FB Elite Page, the developers are wasting their time developing fancy decals yet still haven't sorted the nitty gritty.

I'm making use of the DSR feature in the driver release. My monitors native resolution is 1920 x 1080 but am now running ED at 4k resolution. The difference is amazing, loads of clear detail, no anti-alaising issues at all. I manage 40fps at stations and around 70fps in space.

It's like having a whole new monitor for free!!

Thanks guys, it sounds like it's just like any other release where certain configurations get a few percent performance increase but for some reason they decided to feature Elite in the notes for this one.

Not sure my current 570 would cope with DSR but luckily my shiny new 980 arrived today so I'll definitely try it out when I get home!

*amd fan runs in, guns blazing* RED TEAM FOR LIFE *runs out, guns still blazing*
(ensue the onslaught)

You have a chance to try out the DSR yet and what's the frame rate like with and without it?

Yeah I've been fiddling with it :) Here's the results of a little non-scientific, probably innacurate experiment:

E: D version 3.04 (2014.11.06.48452), Nvidia Graphics Driver version 344.60. PC specs are on my Twitch page.

Game graphics settings used
Nvidia Control Panel "Manage 3D Settings" values (pretty much at default)

Note: To show how I see it on my screen, each screenshot has been downsized to 1920x1080 using GIMP with interpolation set to Sinc. FPS's below were taken over 2 minutes per resolution, flying a Type 6 around inside the coriolis station in LHS 246, Ellis Laboratory.

Screen native - FPS ~100-120
DSR 2x - FPS ~68-80
DSR 3x - FPS ~45-55
DSR 4x - FPS ~32-40

After many hours of trying and tweaking stuff, I now run the game permanently at DSR 2x - it's a good mix of greatly reduced jaggies with a smooth frame rate.

I'll have to remember to do this again say every couple of months, to track what effect the ongoing optimisations to E: D and Nvidia's drivers have.
