It's a stupid idea that was born out of a TV show in the mid 70s, aiming to replicated Orson Well's War of the World broadcast in the 30s.
In the latter version, the landing was staged because people had been going to the moon, secretly, for years.
Then they revealed an 'exclusive' photo they'd gotten hold of, of the 'Dark Side', where a huge force of aliens had camped, ready to invade Earth.
Throughout the show there were tons of clues, such as using well know actors as undercover 'scientists' and so on.
It was kinda funny at the time.
But the clowns who still take it seriously are a lot funnier.
