NVIDIA reinventing the display pipeline for VR

could be he is referring to the old steamvr bug with ED where they had noise rendering outside the regular game pixels.
Since you have a slightly wider fov in the lenses when looking straight ahead and this presented as a few intermittent coloured pixels in your extreme periphery, rather unsettling since this triggers your flight or fight response..

it was noticeable in the steamvr mirror and it covered the masked areas.

Haven't heard about that since quitr awhile ago, like a year.

Nah, thats not it guys. Seemed to happen just on Nvidia cards when you could see the image rendering into existence right on the periphery of your vision, but this was in VR only.

Im looking for the link, but can't find it.

I would do a search, but the search feature is really poor. I can search in a section of the site it seems.

Found it, look at the left edge of the screen and see the textures missing on the video:

And here:

Does this still happen. It never has done this on my AMD card.

Yuck - certainly never seen that myself.

...and I bet I'm going to have to spend another $800-$1000 to experience this "reinvention", aren't I? Maybe more if I want the one that's overclocked another 2%

Yes. It's not VR only. I see it frequently on my 3D monitor. I even see it in 2D sometimes and it's not limited to the edges. I saw it last night and I'm running the drivers that were released yesterday, but I've seen it for months, with numerous different drivers.

I assumed it was a FD issue, but I do have an NVidia 980Ti.

I'm not too sure. I have really tried to replicate it on my machine and it's just not there (AMD). That's why I am hesitant on getting an Nvidia card at the moment.

I will see how my current card is, if its runs okay, then I may wait for Volta/Navi. Not too sure about the vega cards yet. Maybe the new drivers will give them better VR performance as they are poor at the moment.

Does this look like the same bug as the one in the video? It's not quite as pronounced. I see this sort of thing fairly often.
