Nvidia Titan V

TJ posted this over in the hardware and technical section. And according to this article it is 9x more powerful then the Titian XP it is replacing.

I know it isn't for gaming but 9 TIMES MORE POWERFUL! Volta could bring some real extra power to VR; sure I doubt it will be 9x but who knows we could get 2x or more which would be great for you guys they have got 8k headsets on the way [up]

Most of the excess power is in the TensorCores. They are specifically designed for matrix multiplications that are common in Convolutional Neural Networks and will be of no use for graphics in gaming. The biggest thing about this if that it means the next gen consumer cards meant for gaming are likely to be coming out Q1 next year...

Yep, just think of the annoyed people who just got a 1070ti just for a new set of cards to come out a few months later.

That's why I've been holding out replacing my GTX 970... I've seen enough before this to believe the Volta is ready, and that you will see the 10XX series dwindle away over Christmas. I have noted that the less popular cards seem to be in short supply or missing from New Egg. Nothing you can put your finger on for sure.

I've had a hard time holding off since getting the Rift, but I think it will be worth it. On the other hand, selling second hand cards on eBay has always brought good resale value.

Doesn't support sli. I'm out :D

PS it's not generally 9x more powerful it's just a LOT faster at some specific features (which may not have any effect on gaming).
It's an odd one. The titan is normally out a while after the cheaper cards. I am wondering if this does not bode well for the general consumer cards. With no competition from amd I worry NV are going to stretch out this gen of gaming carfs

It has about 30% more "cores" compared to the current titan. 30% more memory bandwidth too.

I reckon it's about 25% faster than a 1080Ti in games.

I'm eagerly anticipating the next gen of gaming cards (I'd like a bit more power than my 1070 currently). The only thing I'm dreading is the time it takes from when the cards are first released to when they cost somewhere around MSRP. With the 1000-series, I paid way over MSRP and it was more than 3 months after the card was first released.

+1 for the convolutional neural Networks... fascinating; will defo read up on that properly when I get a chance.

Lets just hope they don't go after the ludicrous crypto currency bubble and aren't trying to out do AMD at that (unless that is exactly what they are doing).

How come my GTX1080ti I bought six months ago now seems... obsolete?

Welcome to the continual advancement of technology. Your statement is the age-old question with PCs: Should I get X now or wait for Y to be released (and then cry when Z comes out)? lol

Hehe! I gave up on the PC and went to console because of this in about 2006. I still had a gaming PC but it was for MS flight sim and EVE only and I adopted a strategy of two generations behind the curve. Then Lord Braben brought Elite back and he has cost me a bloody fortune!!! :D

I know about the continual advancement of technology, I waited for the GTX1080 to be available in laptops before buying a full mongo gaming laptop (£3100), and I waited for the third party cards so I could buy an asus strix GTX1080ti, and that the 1080ti in my desktop still rocks; but its an abnormally large leap in performance from titan pascal to titan volta... Its almost a full order of magnitude in one generation!

I've been waiting for NVidia to release a GPU with integrated memory, ever since AMD released Radeon cards using it. This is exactly what I want, unfortunately, it's about 6 times the price I want to pay for it. :D I really will need a new video card for my Pimax 4K, since my 980Ti will likely need to run VR low or medium settings for an acceptable framerate.

I would be very surprised if nvidia doesn't launch a Geforce series on this range now in the very early new year.
And by that I mean a <$1000 card.
If not already at CES in January, at least before March.

Anyhoo, I think I'm going to have to be ok with the 1080ti for a bit more, the fund are simply not there.
