Yes, it is.
I could have sworn it was once possible to enable HDR on multi-display setups if the main display was HDR capable. Caused the other displays to look off though, so perhaps they removed that functionality.
Yes, it is.
I'm on the same setup, I'll confirm it is behaving the same if I get the time to test out tomorrow.I just installed the nVidia app to try out the HDR thing.
A point to note - and why I (sort of) can't use it:
I have two monitors. One is a 4K screen that is HDR capable but my second screen isn't. The app doesn't cater for this and requires the non-DHR screen to be disconnected. I could do that to try it out but... that's a faff.
Did you see if you could replicate what I'm seeing, by any chance?I'm on the same setup, I'll confirm it is behaving the same if I get the time to test out tomorrow.
Sorry, didn't get a chanceDid you see if you could replicate what I'm seeing, by any chance?
I did a feedback to nVidia on it but it was anonymous so I won't see any reply.
EDIT:
Actually, there's a wider question here too: has anyone played around with settings for ED in this app? I haven't tried yet as there's some stuff I need to do first.
I had to drop the windows HDR on EDO.. It was just horrible. For instance in the FSS.
Stupid question : does HDR work for VR?
I've got a 3090fe and a hdr 4k monitor but I just wanna know if it works in VR?

They iterated around it and as of 2024 you can do this IF you are on a fully patched Windows 11 (or Canary which is where they did all the iteration and I had to redo ClearType every damn reboot for about a month).I could have sworn it was once possible to enable HDR on multi-display setups if the main display was HDR capable. I tried that, now my game looks aboslutely trash, oversaturated, but also washed out, and I can't seem to revert it.In case anyone's not aware, the Nvidia TrueHDR mod works on Elite Dangerous to convert the game to HDR. Well worth having a look if you have an RTX card and a HDR monitor or OLED screen etc.
It's similar to Windows AutoHDR in concept, but works far better, and does not raise the black levels in the way autohdr does.
It's a nice wee graphical boost to the game. The mod is here:
https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/781
If you plan on using it I would suggest also downloading the TrueHDRTweaks settings file, which is linked further down the mod page, which allows some of the settings to be adjusted to avoid colour shift (I've only used the mod with these tweaks so I don't know if colour shift actually is an issue for Elite, but it's a simple matter to add the tweaks so you may as well.)
Following this thread I installed specialk to make Elite work with HDR. It is the only game where windows Auto-HDR does not look good for me but gives black a grey gain and makes the whole galaxy look bland. However after injecting specialk through steam properties into the game I am not able to open the ODS ingame with ctrl + shift + backspace. My monitor a gigbyte M27Q cabeble of hdr, I am playing on an AMD 7900xt. What could I do wrong? How does RTX HDR compare to what can be done with SpecialK's HDR retrofit? I haven't been able to find any good comparisons and can't do one myself as I only have one Windows 11 system, which isn't a gaming setup.

Yes specialk was running and ED shown as injected process I was able to toggle HDR on and off with the keyboard shortcut. However the overlay would not come up so I was not able to play around with any options. Meanwhile I found out that AMD Adrenaline was interfering with the windows HDR settings. After switching that off and recalibrating win HDR I think can can life well with the result. Will keep specialk and try out in other games.I don't use Steam and am unfamiliar with this method of applying SpecialK to a game. Is the SpecialK launcher/tray menu running? Are there any SpecialK processes in listed in Task Manager?
Assuming SpecialK is launching correctly I'd then suspect some conflict with some other overlay.
